Our oll fiiend Benny Newman paid
us a flying visit. He thinks I'lattsmouth
promises a heap of business to enterpris

A gay troubador, witb tbe "harp of a

Capt. Wm. A. Smith, from Fetcr
boro, New Hampshire, was severely
wounded la.t Monday, near West Mills,
on the west fork ot iig J-Iue river.
Captain S. was very carelessly taking a
Henry Rifle out of a wa on, when the
trigger caught and the gun discharged
its contents, the ball striking him just
above the right nipple, passing down
ward and outward just below the ribs,
about four inches from the .pine on the
richt side. Cart. S. is a relative of our
well known townsman, A. B. Smith

left the scene where the accident occurred,
but the idivficians who attend him en

erv. This is another of these terrible
warnings to parties using firearms, to ex
ercke greater prudence in handling them,
from i'ridny'X Daily.
Mr. V. W. Uuthman and launly ar
rived here yesterday from Raden, Ger
many. Mr. G. intends making his home
in Cass County.
About 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon
a row occurred on Main street between a
white man and Gcorae , one of
the colored pugilists spoken of in the
Herald, of Monday. We did not learn
the particulars as noarrosts were made.
The other night while a gentleman
was on his way home, at a late hour, he
was met by a man in the vicinity ef j
Second street bridge, who put his hand
upon his shoulder, and made other affec
tionate demonstrations bo Tincalled for
that the homeward-bound gentleman had
to "persuade" him to let go in such a
manner that we guess that chap won't
stop another man without knowing who
ho is. '
Wednesday night, at the request of a j
companion of the unfortunate man, two
cewtlemcn left their boarding hemso to
help a sick man to his horns up town.-
They found him lying in the street, helped
him to his feet and tendered their services
to assist liim home. After going a short j
distance they were somewhat surprised to j

Tlie citizens residing near the corn r
of Sixth and Main streets complain bit

which occur altogether too frequently in
the building immediately east of the

cold, while the brutal revelers kept up
their orjnes inside.
