whether or not Congre.s wiD. admit Ujih.
' The reasons' for .this , action arc to b

Presidential election in the fall of lSf.
demonstrated that we" had at thfit'timi

when it bcoomes known how rapid is the
increase of her population. In 187S our
popv.laticr. at thc same rate of increase,
would reach a littde ow .1, 000,000 1 but
it is fur to presume that it will at least.,
at the lowest possible statement, pain 10
per cent, which will thow a population
for Nebraska, in 1S78, of 418,663, which
would ' equal tho , number necessary' to
obtain three Congressmen and a fraction '

it is presumed that the vast amount of
work already "developed on our Repre

from the increae6f population, and the
constant demand for new post routes,

This subject came before tho Senate
j-esterday in a ditt'erant shape from thft
I-roposition introduced m thc House and
n jeered on the day before. It proposes
the appointment of a joint committee
of two from the Senate and three from
the House, with powers to aend for
persons and papers ard to report during,
the present Session ; It docs not possess
objectionable features of the Houo
resolution in that it proposes to do the
business immediately and to report to
the body creating, it and not to some
future legislature. It elicited a lengthy
debate and was advocated warmly by a
majority of the Senate, as being the only
method of doing justice to all parties con
corned. It was opjKtsed by Messrs.
Taylor, Fiost, .Ash ton and ( teret on the
grounds that no sfciSe charges had been
