As iilustratire of the faat that men will I

If he should be here (which is not at ail

iust how many troops, and how much
Confederate money, he calculates it will
tako to "tramplo into the dust" the
Southern State governments. If he is
not here probably some of his "frieDds"
can answer these questions for him. We
would also like to know whether or not
he considered tha negroes a "semi bar
barous race' at the time he endeavored
to incite them to open revolt in Missouri.
It is a well known fact that certain
Democrats in this locality have made
themselves exciedinly busy of late en
doavorin to create prejudice in the minds
of Republicans against Han. T. M. Mar
quett. ( Wc are happy to state, however,
that suih operation has only had they
eueci oi more inoroujjaiy convincing j.e

Some people have been at a loss to un

efforts to make capital against Mr. Mar

nature,to discernjthejmotive Hon. T. M.

Which Seam Does JSip Easiest ?
The Willcox A- Gibbs! or The Isc'l
Stitrh f
While it is universally admittrd th.t' (
the Willcox & Gibbs machine is tha sin.
plcst, and the least liablo to get out of
order; that it runs the easiest, stillest und
fastest; that it requires the least skill to
use it; that its needle, hemrner and filler
are unrivall;d; and the machine itself the
best beyond comparison; it is neverthe
ess asserted, by parties interested in the
double thread"machinej, that the Will
cox & Gibbs stitch is not reliable that
"the seam will rip " that the work will
come to pieces before the garment is worn
out," &a. How these charges tally with
the verdiof the jury at the Grand
Trial at Island Park," tho following ex
tract from the '-Report" of that trial will
show :
"Again, each party claims that his
stitch is The least liable to rip, by the or
dinary strain npon the seam of a garment
in use Tho test requires a row of par
allel stitching to be made by each ma
chine, lengthwise, across a narrow strip
t .u:i.M r lt. .V.J
strip is then cut across at every half an
inch, making it into smaller 6trips, each
as long as tho wid.h of tho original piece
Each jud e tases one of these small strips,
and opening the folds on the 'lock stitch'
side, pulls on the ends in opposite direc
tions, and the lock stitch seam rips out
The folds being thus opened to the Wil
cox & Gibbs seam, he continues pulling,
but this seam refuses to rip. He pulls
stronger, but this only tightens the stitch;
the material gives way, but the seam
holds fast." And the jury, in accord
ance with these facts, render the follow
ing verdict: "lis seam (tho Willcox &
Gibbs,) has the peculiar advantage being
readily taken out, when it is d'sirabUi while
it ii Itss liabls to rip. in use or wear, than
the lock sti'ch "
