C"We learn that our enterprising
townsman C. II. Parmele intends to put
on a new line of hacks between this place
and the Rail Road station at Pacific City.
We have long felt the need of tomethiog
of this kind and we wish him success.
5TBy letter from our old typo friend,
Orin II. Mathews now of Decatur, Ala
bama, we lean that despite the damage
done by invading armies, the laziness
and general cussitood of the rebels in that
section, that the city is growing very
rapidjy.
C"lf any one doubts the success of
the effort to esiablish.a public Library in
this city we would advise ;hein to call. at
the office of Mr. W. W. Erwin, Secretary
and Librarian of the Plattsmouth Mer
cantile Library Association, and they
will soon see that it has succeeded as
wel' as the most sanguine could expect.
Long rows of valuMe books have been
oolleotod and tha Association placed on a
firm basis. Shauld their efforts to raiso
money meet with success they will sooj
have a large invoice of new books with
which to gratify the eyes and feast the
intellectual palates of its members. Per
sons desiring to join this Association
can do so by calling on Mr. Erwin, who
wiir gladly receive the small amount of
the matriculation fee.
?"Skeptics and doubters of the doc
trines of total depravity and original sin
can very soon have this doubt resolve!
by taking a stand at Iht foot of Main
street for a few hours, and if they do
not hear the major part of the oaths in
the profane vocabulary we will congrat-
lite them on being "out of luok." It is
a shame not only to the persons engaged
in it, but to our city that such an amount
of blasphemy can be indulged in without
exciting any notice or comment. No
particular class or age seem responsible
for all this, it seems to be a "unanimous
thing," indulged in by persons from five
to fifty years of age. It is. sometimes
"shockingly amusing" to hear the
strange contortions and odd meanings
given to language for tha purpose of in
terlarding it freely with profanity, and
will relate an instance we heard not long
since between a paternal parent and bis
precocious hopeful, of six sweet summers
and Lilliputian dimensions, in which tha
juvenile desired to havo it understood that
a calf had got loose and ho had been
successful in recapturing it:
"Golly, an' the calf broke loose."
"Hell, an' I after.it," "Devil an' 1
caught it."

All who are acquainted with double
thread Machines, know that they require
a great amount of care and patience in

(TPlattsmouth bids fair to take a
huge stride in improvements next season.
Already building material is being de
livered, and from the quantity Gus. Her
ald has in front of his lot on Main street
would judge that he intends to "crowd
the season." The material for the stone
culvert on Main street is also accummu
lating, and the first warm days of spring
will be-gladly hailed by anxious mechan
ics. Indeed,, everybody will ieei more
active with the sound of the hammer and
ring of the trowel in, their ears.
CSTIon. J. E. Doom, of tho firm of
Doom, Bro. & Co., left our city a few
days since for Chicago and the East,
where he intends purchasing goods for
their new store. Mr. Doom will visit all
the important manufactories of Agricul
tural Implements and select just such
machinery as our farmer friends noed
and having had many years experience
in farming in this State no one can
doubt his knowledge of the wants in this
fne or ability to determine the machine
ry than will supply all demands. As
their stock will be purchased direct from
the manufactories it can and will be sold
very l)w.

Dear Herald: Permit us through
your columns, to express our great grati
tude, and thankfulness, to a largo num
ber of tho citizens of Plattsmouth, for
the expression of kindness and sympathy,
and the christian spirit with which they
administered to all oar wants, during
the severe Llness and Death, of oar be
loved little son (Oscar,) also we would
express our heart-felt gratitude to Dr. H.

But all was in vain. God hath taken his

For our littlo household pet.
