ports having stopped at several Indian
camps during their journey down the
Platte, and found them very peaceable
and friendly. They stopped at one camp
of 1500 Sioux, whom they found in no
way inclined to disturb them, but on the
contrary were anxious to. promote a
friendly feeling- Mr. Applegate thinks
there is no leason to fear further Indian j

the bai conduct of the whites. lie was

Q"Will some of the men who are
loud in their praise of Moses A. Johnson's
"policv," and who claim he is carryijg
out the reconstruction policy of the Mar
tyred Lincoln, turn to their speeches and
writings during Mr. Lincoln's ndminis
tration? These fellows remind us of the
man who was pursued by the police
He was unable to make his escape, and
concluded to try the "bold" dodge He
got out of sight around a corner for a
moment, 'and buttoning up his coat,
cocking bis hat upon one side of bis head,
he turned and walked back with head
erect, and was not recognized by the men
who were in pursuit of him. These en
dorsers of "uiy policy" are trying the
same trick. They think by their boldness
and effrontery they will escape detection
as the men who donounced Mr. Linoola
and bis administration: who called the
soldiers "Ltnco'n hirelings" and declared
the war "a failure." Tho Union police
have sharp eyes, however; and the dis
guise and effrontery nro not sufficient.
(T"In going for or ordering goods,

make it more profitable than to send or go
