ClfJudge Busteed, of the United States District Court of Alabama, has decided tha. captains of steamers are refponsi blo to passengers for money which mav be won of them by gamblers on such vessels. The following are the circum of the case: A captain of a passenger boat, on the Lake Pontchartrain, plying between New Orleans and Mob. le, permitted a common gambler to swindle a passenger out of $750 by the ingenious contrivance known as the "sweat cloth." Judge Busteed decided that the manager of the vessel wad bound to protect bis passenger from fraud nnd imposition, by preventing such praMiccs, nnd directed a decree to be en tered against the captain for the amount taken from the passenger. The decision involves a question of great iinnorUnce. and is, we understand, to be taken to the Supreme Court. fJi?"An individual engaged in fishin out drift wood fr m the Missouri Bivtr yesterday picked up" a barrel of buckwheat hour and a couple of boxe cf tobacco Profitable daj'a work .ttcs.
