A gentleman who has traveled ex tensively through the middle por tion of Illinois and alone the 1 ill nois and Sangamon rivers tells us that in many parts of the country and particularly in the bottoms and low Iaiids of the .Sangamon the crops of corn arc very good; in many neiirhhoorhods fiue Corn was selling, deliverable next winter, at 35 a 4()c, pork ht $4, and but ter, at present, at 10 to 12. He S ' a , paid much, attention to the pros pects for corn, and pork, and upon the whole estimates former at full half the usual yield, and pork something, but not a great ileal short of an ordinary season. He heard in Aict, witnessed sever al sales of stock at very low pri ces. One sale of 100 hogs, the largest transaction noticed, was at $.'i per head, big and little, as, they run. The party selling said lie had but a few weeks previous ly refused $ 10 for one hundred, And a less price for the remainder. Instances of this kind were rare, however, and by no means the the general condition even of the worst corn-growing districts. St. Louis Int. India k Cork. A French far mer has succeeded in given to Indian Corn eny color he choo ses, by the following plan: Hav ing received from China a speci men of Maize of a pearl white col or, the grains of which were very small but very beautiful he was desirious to obtain thi same grain but of other colors. For this purpose, he planted by the side of some of them some American maize of a red color. He made a similar experiment with the maize of Tusavoro, the grain of which is as white as Carolina rice, and he thus obtained a crop, the the ears of which were about 14 inches in length, and the grains of a blue color. Another time he planted some maze of the color o amber among some of the black maze of Syria. Tlie ears attained a length of 22 inches, and the grain was of different colors.- The yellow mize on being planted near some of the brown maze of Central America produced some of a dark brown color which Yipens eight days sooner than the other sorts This farmer now possesses 153 diiTerent varieties of maze, and his object in contin ulng his experiments is not only to change the color at will but also to obtain varieties which will ripens earlier, as well as larger and longer ears, and thus increase the produce.
