Did Carson sell out for somebody's support for Governor? Jla.stinitu Nc- Tho Ncbrwltdtn doesn't know John J j. Caraondr is too mean to do him justice. Both, perhapst from'what wo know Of tho character pf its chief edi tor. Mr. Carson isnot'aii olllcoscekor. His friends 1.1 the Htate elected him a regent, but it was not by his own ask ing directly or indirectly. His. jiamo is mentioned frequently by tho press for governor, but his over zealous friends who brought him before the public, had they consulted him, would have found thai they could serto him moro satisfactorily by keeping quiet. Ho is not a oandituto for governor, and wo doubt that lid would accept the nomination if tendered hi in. The ItejmUirun says: "It is ex pected that through passenger trains will be put on the road between JSt Louis and Omaha early in .lime, as the gap between Hiawatha and Atchison will be completed that by time. This gives Omaha a direct communication with tho Gould system of southwestern railways, and is one of tho most im portant lines ever constructed, into Omaha." Appropos: Tho new city of Auburn is on that magnificent thoroughfare, located at tho junction with the H. & M.'s Republican Valley road, at tho center of Nemaha county. Within tho next six months trains will bo running through on tho one from St. Louis to Omaha, and on tho other from Chicago to Denver. Auburn being at tho junc tion of these grand thoroughfares is what causes its unparalleled boom and what will perpetuate said boom. From Central Illinois- Rdltor of Tho Advertiser. DearHir: will take my. pen in hand to drop you a few lines about this part of tho country, which will interest some of your readers. Wheat with a few exceptions looks tolerably well, it is just beginning to head out. Oats also looks tolerably well. There has been some corn planted but the heavy rains wo have had for tho lust two weeks almost without cessation, makes it necessary for many of the farmers to replow and plant their 1 ground. Tho corn planted is beginning ' to rot in tho ground. Apples, peaches ' and cherries promisu a fair crop. Prices for-all grain is high. Corn is worth' from o" to 75 cents; oats -15 cents; I wheat 81. W. Hogs tiro worth from 0 to 7 cents por hundred. We have I had rainy weather pretty much till tho time since September last, until about 1 four weeks ago. Farmers had to gath-' er tlioir corn last winter, with but few exceptions in the mud, which was sometimes half boot-top deep. There Is quite a mania for correspondents in different parts of this neighborhood, and so I thought I would try my hand too. Illinois F.vumeu. I ESTABLISHED 18 7 0.
