HOME, FAIL1I ANII GAHDEN. ' Clover i.s tho best forage for gooso, ' ami otio uci'o is sufliciont for fifty birds. When putting away winter clothes, see that they are clean and whole; it is a great comfort to tako them out ready for use. Have a bag to hold tho stock ings of each member of the family. Label each one, hi onlor to save timo and not to bo obliged to look into each to iiiul tho ones you wish to use. Tho bark lico on tho trees may bo romoveU by washing with lye or strong soap suds about tho first of June, when tho young lice are hatching and mov ing about to tind a place in which to lo cate. Tho trees should also bo severe ly prunod, and manuro applied to tho roots in order to start thorn into a thrif ty growth. Moonshine. Heat tho whites of six eggs into a very still' froth, then add gradually six tablespoonl'uis of pow dered sugar, beating for not les than lifteen minutes-; then boat in one heap ing tablespoonful of preserved poaches cut in tiny bits. In serving, pour in each saucer some rich cream sweetened and llavored with vanilla, and on tho cream placo a liberal portion of tho moonshine. This quantity is enough for aovon or eight persons. Raised Cake. Tako thrco cupfuls of sweet milk, one cupful of yeast ami one cupful of sugar; stir in Hour to make a stiff batter, and let it rise; when light, add two cupfuls of sugar, two cupfuls of butter, and thrco eggs, well beaten; work well together and lot it rise again; then add nutmeg and fruit to suit tho taste; mix well and put in pans. After about half an hour it will bo ready for tho oven. Hake tho same as bread. A nice dish for breakfast is mado by taking bits of ham that have been left from previous meals, cutting them in small pieces, and heating them with two or three eggs stirred in. Pieces of beef may also bo used, and enjoyed if properly cooked. Chop them line, sea son with butt-, poppor and salt, and servo bt. Tho excellence of those dishes depends upon the way in which you cook and season them. Anything which is warmed over in order lo bo palatable must bo nicely prepared. Asparagus with Eggs. This dainty luncheon-dish is mado of whatever as paragus may bo left over from tho pre vious day. Supposing there are a dozen heads of asparagus cut the green part into pieces tho size of peas, molt an ounce of butler in a saucepan, add a tablespoonful of cream or milk, a tablo spoontul of gravy, a liltlo pepper and salt and three well-beaten eggs. Throw in the asparagus, stir the eggs quickly over the lire tor half a minute till they are sot, and pour the mixture neatly upon slices of bread which have been dipped in boiling water and buttered. A uvnollcut blacking for louthor is made as follows: Mix three pounds of lampblack, half pound of bone-black ami five pounds of molasses and glycer ine in equal parts. Melt two and a half ounces of gutta-percha in a suitablo vessel and add ten ounces of olivo oil and one oniico of stearino, with contin ual stirring. Add this to tho first mixt ure and stir thoroughly. Dissolve livo ounces of gum Senegal in a pint and a half of wator, adding one ounce each of oil of rosemary and lavendor, and stir this well into tho doublo mixture. This may bo used for harness as it is, apply ing it with a spongo'and rubbing it in with a soft cloth. For boots mix tho blacking with three times as much water. Of cooling nutrients which are iu great demand in cases of fever, crack ers and orange-juice and barloj'-wator are among tho best known. The first is composed simply of broken crackers, milk crackers being tho best, and .strained orange-juice, which is poured ovor them. This is the most refreshing and cooling nutriout which can bo givon to a fever patient. To make barley water, a quarter of a pound of barley is placed in a quart of water. It may bo steeped in cold water ovor night or boiled in water, which must bo allowed to come to a boil and no more. In either caso tho wator is to be thrown away. Another quart of water is added, and this is allowed to boil down to a pint. Tho mixture is then strained and cooled, after which it is ready for use. A little milk may be added if desirable. Sowing (Jrain Willi Grass. Sowing grain with grass seed, says an exchange, is a practice quite com monly eoiidoninod, yet it is rather tho rulu than the exception. This custom can hardly bo defended as one to bo' followed, yet it lias somo few advan tages, notable among which is tho .smothering of weeds. On a piece of weedy land, ami when green manure is used before seeding down land in clines to weeds, to say nothing of tho risk of sowing weed seeds in "onnec tion with grass seeds it becomes a question whether to urow a crop of weeds or a crop of grain beforo the grass is ready to mow. Tho t-oeds of woods start miickor than grass seeds, and tho woods grow up overshadow ing tho grass, so that Hie lirst cutting will give more of the former and less of the latter than is desirable. In such a case, tho danger of letting in tho sun's hot rays and of burning out the young grass is just as groat as though a crop of grain had boon sown and harvest 0(1. If, with tho grass seod, a light sowing of barley is mado, tho latter will grow up quicker than tho woods and over shadow them, so that if tho barley bo out green and mado into hay, or ovun fed green whore soiling is prac ticed, a crop of good fodder will bo se cured in lieu of a crop of weeds. Jn all transactions upon the farm, circum stances must govern as well as tho best conceived rules.
