R. 0. Fellows, of the- Sheridan squirt-gun, being pinned to the wall by an able, logical and truthful letter by J. S. Church, in that miserable sheet, makes a feeble attempt to extricate bimself by a tissue of lies and misrep resentations, slanders and abuse of and about The Advkrtiser. False hood, and the- baby plea of "he com menced it," are most too thin for intel ligent people. Judge Church remains unanswered;. The Beatriee Express is not pleas-ed-with The Advertiser's support of Church Howe, and is still less pleased with Mr. Howe himself, because he did more in the work of bursting Pad dock than any other man. The opinion or desires of the wishy-washy Express is of little concern to us; but for the sake of its readers we advise it to disist from holding up before them, the remains of a political corpse that in its lifetime was accidentally made a Sen ator, and talk about some live man like- Churcb Howe. Berger, Perry and Burnett in opening a way for the Brownville ferry boat, while they have the satisfaction of realizing that they planned and ex ecuted successfully, and got well paid for it, are not insensible to the fact that the assistance of the citizens of Brownville, in the way of "suggestions, encouragement and actual volunteer labor, contributed largely toward the results achieved. And they desire and request the Advertiser to return thanks in their behalf to all who assist ed them, hired men and volunteers: and to make special mention of the invaluable help of James Stevenson, of the firm of S. & C without whose in defatigable labors, persistency in work ing up the scheme, pertinent sugges tions and saws, bars, axes, furnished gratis from his hardware store, the boat would probably yet be lying in its dangerous winter bed. It is due the rsons above alluded to, and Mr. Stevenson, that this public acknowledg ement for their co-operation be made; as cordially as it is felt by the above named late bosses of the ice canal.
