On last Thursday evening that
splendid comic opera, Pinafore, waB
again pregented, aud. as was an
nounced for the lust time, by the
Company of Miss Cora Gates. This
being the third time the opera has
been rendered hare, we were agree
ably surprised to see the house literal
Jy tilled again to witness it. The
company acquitted itself splendidly,
each member supporting their charac
ter to perfection. We but express
the entire wish of this community in
hoping that Miss Gates and her-pleae
ant and talented associates, will reu
nite ere long again In some pleading,
popular opera.
The temperance ladies of Brown
ville God bless them. They did
their share of the work at the elec
tionall they are permitted to do;
for they could not vote and decisively
and forcyer 6ettle thesalnnu businass,
which'they would have done most ef
fectually in the interests of humanl-
t3. All day they kept their tables set,
and fed all comers regardless of local
ity, or party proclivities, and many
ladles were at the polls all day using
their influence in behalf of the cause
which so greatly interests them, and
on which depends the weal or woe of
many of them. Dadies, you did well,
aud on behalf of all lovers of law, or
der, and good' society we thank you.

Jas. Stevenson spent several days
last week in Tecumseh. He says that
city is booming.
Andy Berger and Johnny Smith
have gone into partnership in the
barber buMnets, and have a shop very
elegantly fitted up.
Manny Lowman, accompanied
by hiB sister Sarah, who 'has been at
tending school in Milwaukee, re
turned home last Thursday.
Hon. Church Howe will lecture
on Temperance, at London, M. E.
Church, on Saturday evening, April
17th. Come out every bodj' and hear
him.
The temperance people had a
rousing meetiug in the Opera House
Monday evening, and Rev. S. P. Wil
son, of Nebraska City, delivered a
most convincing and soul-stirring ad
dress. Capt. Jno. L. Carson went up to
Lincolu last week to attend a meeting
of the Board of Regents, but the
Board failing to convene, Mr. Carson
returned to Liucoln again Wednesday
thl9 week, for same purpose.
Our young friend, A. H. Waite,
who has been engaged in a bank at
St. Joseph, was in the city last week
visiting friends and relatives. He
started for Jopliu, Mo., Monday,
where he takes charge of the Miner's
Bank.
Tecu mseh Chieftain : Mr. James
Stevenson of the firm of Stevenson &
Cross, of Brownville. was in our city
several days this week. He was here
for the purpose of disposing of some
of the real estate belongiug to this
firm, in and near Tecumseh. They
have some of the fiuest residence lots
in this city, which they are offering
on reasonable terms.

his knees, by a shock. Mrs. Winters,
who has been an invalid, for a long
time and has been stopping at the res
idence of Dr. McGrew some days, re
ceived quite a shock, and in her weak,
nervous state, affeoted her quite ser
ious. No case dangerous.

a notice for a meeting of the members
of the Western Academy of Homce'o-
ipatby, to be held at Minneapolis in
June the present year. In the assign
ment of the chairmanships of the va
rious bureaus, we find that our fellow-citizen.

recent grand jury, and that jury did
not recommend the erection of a new
jail, and if it had done so, Brownville
should not be blamed for It, for
the jury was composed of nonresi
dents of Brownville, with one except
ion we believe. A fair and candid
presentation of facts and arguments
promotes a laudable cause; but lies,
garblings, pettifoging, misrepresenta
tions, sensational distortion of facts,
hurt any cause. Many good things
could be said for Sheridan and if the
Post would confine itself to saying
them, avoiding the ridiculous posi
tions and utterances usually indulged
in by the senior of the Post, it would
certainly be very gratifying to all sen
sible people about Sheridan, who de
sire their cherished plans promoted
instead of retrograded everytime
the senior sharpens up his pencil.
