Union of Hearts and Hands.
Married on the evening of the30th
ult., by Esquire J. P. Crother, Mr.
Nela Peterson, of Humboldt, Neb.,
and Misa Libble Scovill, of Nemaha
City.
Being In Nemaha City Tuesday eve
ning and learning that the Good
Templar lodge would present an un
commonly interesting feature that
evening, we remained for lodge. At
the usual hour, or probably a few
minutes earlier, the lodge "was opened
in due form. After the necessary
business attendant upon opening was
had, a motion for recess prevailed.
Then the doors were thrown open
and the candidates for matrimony,
with their attendants, Miss Lucy
Polock and Mr. Finch, moved leis
urely into the hall followed by rela
tives, and many friends, attracted
thither to see the connubial knot tied
Advancing to near tho oentro of the
hall, the bridal party was met by
Esq. Crother, who after reuding his
authority, uttered the impressive cer
emony, the conclusion of which, was
tho pronouncing of the contracting
parties husband and wife. The fair
bride in choosing the lodge room as
the place in which to be married did
so through motives of genuine friend
ship for those whom she had met
with, and on occasions presided over,
as W. C. T., for many years ; and it
was deemed a fitting place to receive
their congratulations and to Bay the
sad "good-bye." After a short season
of congratulations, aud a tune or two
by Melvin'B orchestra, the bridal par
ty retired from the hall while tho or
chestra played the touching music
"Put Me in My Little Bed." At the
Scovill residence there were renewed
farewells uttered, wedding cake pass
ed, cigars, then the happy wedded
couple sprang into the waiting buggy
and started for Humboldt. The des
cription of dress we have designedly
omitted, for it is entirely out of our
line, but must add that both were
handsomely attired, the bride was
richly dressed p.nd lovoly, and the
bridegroom was manifestly happy.
They will accept our thanks for their
kindness, and our renewed wishes for
nteiong nappmess.
A large stocli of confections

Fans, fans ! at Lowman's.
On the street wo see a man with
bright clean shaven face, clean neat
clothes, polished boots, his hat brush
ed, his hair arranged decently, and he
wears a white collar and neck tie.
We step across the threshold of his
home. What do we see within? We
see at once that they are poor, but the
wife Is happy, at work, with some
thing to work with; something to
make up for the children to wear;
something to cook for them to eat.
The pleasant condition of this man
and his family is different from what
it was before his divorce from whisky
and saloons. Thatgenteel looking man
was then a drunkard and the saloon
keeper got about all tho money he
made, now he is sober, has been sober
for several months. That contentod,
huppy family was then the family of
a drunkard, rendered miserable from
Buffering and want, and that wife was
sad at heart, weeping In poverty and
for the shame that a drunkard's wife
feels. That man wants to continue
In tho path of soberness, peace, hap
piness and plenty. That wife is hope
ful. She hopes hor husband will bo
ever ablo to perform his good reso
lutions, yet nhc must droad the snares
and temptations constantly set and
planned for his fall by thoso who Beek
to turn him into his former drunkon
ways. The above plotures of the
transformation of a drunkard to a so
ber man and a miserable family to a
happy one, Is true and will bo recog
nized as true by many of our readers;
and it tries our patience to tho utmost
to think that there are individuals
who seek to allure this man again to
his old habits. Accursed be tho man
that would do this. Let every tem
perance man and woman In all their
strength say accursed, and concen
trate their strength to perform a duty
as saored as it is momentous.
