does seem to us that the Birth Day of

Within the past week we have
seen corn growing in the fields from
two to five feet in height; aud we
notice a patch of com in a neighbor's

could not bo more promising. Let
our Eastern friends, digging around
amongst stumps and stones take no

Bob. Morrison's Billiard Hall
is the most pleasant pleasure resort in
the city. Ho has recently dressed his
threo billiard tables in new cloths,
all the appointments of the place are
neat and clean, and Bob knows just
how to make a lemonade, and sets up
other cooling healthy drinks, but
touches not, handles not, tastes not,
any intoxicating liquors, and allows
nothing of the kind about his premis
es. Temperance people who indulge
in innocent billiards and temperance
drinks, or a good cigar, should patron
ize Robert.
Mr. Swan, the man who herds our
city cattle so well, requests us to say
that he aud his "cow boys'' desiring
to celebrate the Fourth of July as oth
er people do, aud enjoy a privilege
which should cheerfully be accorded
to everybody, he will not take out his
herd ou that day, and hopes all his
patrons will prepare to keep their
cows up on that day aud without at
tributing blame to him. Mr. Swan is
a good herder, takes first rate care of
the cattle iu his chaige, and
with this timely notice, wo doubt
not that all his patrons .will be ready
to care for their cows this one day and
let Mr. Swan and his boys freely en
joy the great National Holiday.

Editor Nebr.iska Advertiser,
The railroad train running between
this place and Lincoln, It Is said, ac
tually run down, nud run over a cow
last week, eomewhere between Ne
braska City and Lincoln ! The train
between Brownville and Nebraska
City will never do that. If It would
only once accomplish' such a feat,
the peoplo in this neck of woods
would feel greatly encouraged with
prospeots of increased speed. One can
go from Brownville to St. Louis in
twenty four hours, and return in the!
same time. To go from BrowuvillG
to Lincoln sixty miles by thodlrect
route continued rail It now requires
forty-eight hours to go and the same
to return ninety-six hours to make
the round trip. "Verily the world
moves'" if railroads do not. This is
over the Nebraska Railway.

Our correspondent was certainly
not posted ou tlie cause of the death

a moment imagine that a train on the

The Brownville Advertiser has
been renovotod and transformed into
a temperance paper. Falls City
.Journal.
Tho Journal, if it has plenty of
time, tcftget the news. The Adver
iiser, and its editor, ore now precise
ly what they have been for the last
past six years theoretically and prac
tically temperance While we are
not devoted to the temperance work
as much as we are to local interests
and the Republican party, yet what
we have to say on the subject of tem
perance will be in favor of tho cause.
Possibly thebtrnaZ man is unable to
understand how an editor can be true
to his party hand local interests, and
at the same time be a sturdy temper
ance man, but we assure him suoh a
thing is not only possible but very
agreeable and consistent with good
journalism.
An interesting feature connected
