Palmer, there fore be it Hesolved, That we hereby recog nize in the loss of one of our number, the hand of our Father who art in heaves, and would therefore rever ently and solemnly bow unto him who doeth all things well. JResolved, That in the death of our brother we have lost a faithful and worthy member, and his memory will lone be cherished by the mem bers of this Temple. Resolved, That we hereby express our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family in this their sudden and irre parable lose. Besolved, That a copy of these reso lutions be presented to the family, and each of the papers of this city for publication. A. H. GnaroRE, S. P. Wxlsox, T. L. Schick, Committee. Died In this city on Friday, 2Sth ult.. Mr. James C. Palmer, aged 401 years and 6 months. The deceased was for many years a citizen of Brownville. A widow and seven children are left to weep and mourn the sudden loss of a husband and father whom they will see no more in this life. The deepest sym pathy is felt by the whole community for the bereaved ones. Mr. Palmer to all appearances was a strong man, yet he died in less than one week from his first illness. Mr. Palmer was a charter member of the Brownville Temple of Honor, and there being no objections by the family the Temple took charge of the funeral. On Sunday at 1 o'clock the mem bers of the order filed out of their ball in snow white regalia with the blue bp.uge of mourning attached, and formed In order on the Etreet in charge of R. V. Black as marshal, as sisted by James Stevenson and James Cochran. Preceded by the cornet band the procession marched, keep ing time to the tap of the muffled drum, to the residence of the dead brother. Fortunately the day was bright and pleasant, and while Rev. S. P. Wilson, of the M. E. Church, and Chaplain of the Temple, stood in the doorway and preached a short but very excellent sermon, the order stood reverently at rest, the mourners in the house gave utterance to con vulsive lamentations, and others gath ered at the threshold and thought, and saw, and heard, and silently shed their sympathetic tears. When the preacher had finished, the funeral cor tege moved out with measured tread timed by asoul-inspiring dirge by the band, on Its solemn march toward the city of the dead. Those one hun dred and twenty-five sober, thought ful, courageous men, clothed in the pure emblems of fraternal brother hood the people gathered on the cor ners, and along the streets, or crowd ed to their windows and to the front of their residences to see them. While the spectacle may have caused feelings of wonder, It also caused those of admiration in the breast of overy one who delights in seeing men take a step upward in the scale of hu manity. Arrived at the cemetery the remains of the deceased brother were lowered to their last, silent, peaceful resting place; the beautiful ritualistic service of the order was ut tered over the dead, a prayer to God offered for the living, and the broth erhood turned their faces from the Eolemn surroundings.
