This would obviate the necessity we

hence to close our columns by noon,
this latter work is all we can well do.
Sometimes to accommodate some par

much as it gives us extra work and
throws us far Into the night in get

Well, the railroad has fiualiy
been extended down to Nemaha City,
five miles below Brownville. We
congratulate Nemaha on this consum
mation of its crowning hope, and the
sure fruition of its soul's chief desire.
There is great credit due to all who
took hold and worked for this result,
but above all should it be accorded to
Levi Johnson, who has, to our per
sonal knowledge, been ino.st perais
ten tor the past two years in his efforts
to persuade the railroad company to
continue their line down to that place
Lie has made mauy visits to Lincoln
and Omaha on this special business
and written letters continually.
When others had despaired and giv
en up all hope, Levi was importun
ing the Superintendent, never tiring
never despairing. He showed him
how it would pay the company, until
finally it was believed, a promise ex
torted, which haajusl been complied
with to the glory of Nemaha and ev
erybody's delight, and to thegreat
pecuniary advantage of every one do-
lug bti8lUosoFwiilUgprbnt.'rty..tbere..
Prior to this, town real estate had no
cash value, now it has, and the town
is placed in a position to grow and
become wealthy. Mr. Johnson oould
not have spent his time and means to
build up the town through purely
selfish motives, for he owns very lit
tie properly there. He is a poor man
and while his efforts will puj thous
ands of dollars iuto the pockets of
some he himself will be lithe tho bet
ter off after all. Being disabled by
the loss of one of his arms he cannot
work as a laborer, and if the people of
Nemaha, and those greatly interested
in the town, would give him some
thing to place him in the way of mak
ing a good living for himself and fam
ily, they would but repay a generous
debt. We would at lpast like to see
him able to repair and fix up his ho
tel in good shape.
Friend Levi knows nothing of this
appeal in his behalf we volunteer it
knowing what he has done for Nema
ha and that he deserves all the cred
it we give him. and that he deserves
all we ask for him.
