On Thursday .of last week a man giving his namo as Jordan Harris came into our sanctum and said- he wanted us to do him a favor, aud without pecuulary reward, as he was impecunious in the extremest degree. We told him not to mention it that we were working especially for the good of the race, and tospiu his yarn, which he did as follows: "I have- come all the way -from Shelby county, Ohio, in search of iny children a son and a daughter, es pecially my daughter, who was sto len, or coaxed away from home by one John Rhodes, a neighbor. On the 14th of last May Rhodes, with his wife and three children probably four now, as there was one prospec tivegather up his traps ami left lhat country; my son 20 years old and daughter 15 years old, left with him. My son'a name is Joseph, my daugh ter's name Is Elvina. Rhodes and his wife are bad people I um on iheir track have heard of them sev eral times last lime GO miles east of here believe they crossed the river at Browuville and are in Nebraska or Kansas. Rhodes sometimes parses Elvira for his wife, and Joseph claim ing Mrs. Rhodesas his wife. My daugh ter is ruined, but I want her out of Rhodes' power, aud want you to ad vertise him, so that good people may know him, and to the end that he may be arrested aud punished for his crime. I am going from here to Maryville, Kansas, where any infor mation concerning Rhodes or my daughter will find me and be thank fully received." Harris then gave a description of the outfit he is after, as follows : John Rhodes is about G feet 1 inch high, very dark complected, black hair and eyes, slender made, about 35 years old. He drove a rather small bay mare, blind in both eyes, and a big rhone horse with a big warty foot, to an ordinary looking wagon. Joseph Harris is heavy made, near ly G feet high dark complected. Elvira Harris is "heavy set," prob ably a little over five feet in height, light brown hair, rather fair complex ion, full face. One of Rhodes' children, a little girl, ha3 a stifF finger, caused by the cut of a hatchet. We remarked to Harris that his son Joseph was as much of a villain as Rhodes, that his iniluence could have saved his sister, and that he had evi dently bartered her virtue aud blasted her future for the illicit companion ship of the Rhodes woman. "Yes, it looks that way," answered the stricken father. Joltn Y, Tickers The great corn raiser still ahead paid his rent 15 days before it was due. J. Crane. Children's undershirts at McPhcrson's.
