We have to reoord another nar
row escape from death by pistol shot
discharged in the hands of a boy who
is not only incompetent to handle
such a weapon, but who hae no moral,
social or civil excuse for carrying It.
On last Monday Jas. Neider, a boy
15 years of age, at work for Mr. Hen
ry Elliot, near Hillsdale, was sent
wltti Elliot's boy Tommy to the field
to hoe corn. The boys took their
hoes4 on their shoulders and their re
volvers in their pockets. Of course
their time was divided between imple
ment and weapon, and while exam
Fning each others pistols, Tommy oook
ed the one he held and carelessly dis
charged It, lodging the contents in
Neider arm. The ball entered below
the elfcow, which was bent at right
anglepassed over the joint and loged
back of tbe humerus, whence it was
removed by Dr.Crira andMr.MInlck.
Though the wound is not serious,
mere acoident prevented it being fatal,
and we hope those boys have learned
'a lesson ahout' handling pistols.

To tho Officers and Member of tho I. O. of
G.T. of Nebraska:
For the following reasons we the un
dersigned, deem it advisable to dofer
the celebration of the the Good Tem
plars of the State, that was to have
been held In this city on the Uth of
July, to the middle of September or
thereabouts. 1. The Temple of Hon-or-UaSVeoently
held a celebration that
was largely participated in by most of
our citizens and people of the State.
2; On the 27 cf June the Commence
ment exercise of-the State University
will bo held aud will attract the In
terest of all. 3. The 4th of July is at
hand, the celebration of which many
of our members will engage in having
Lodge picnics, etc. 4. The excurs
ion trains so desirable to be obtained
on the different roads to secure a large
attendance oould not be had at pres
ent.' 5. The 9th of July will be in
the midst of harvest and so many of
our members are farmers, aud will be
bo situated as to render It Impossible
for them to turn out in mas3esas they
would do at a more propitious time.
We hope the Brotherhood from
abroad will see from the above rea
sons that our action to defer the cele
bration is for the best and calculated
to make it more successful when it
does come off.
