rhubarb, cut in inch pieces without

Beware of adding lemon, ginger, eggs

Prof. Aughey, of our own State, has
often asserted the same. Those less in

a few of the newspapers in the west
followed suit. What we are now
pleased to note as the "mysterious

Some time ago a scandalous story
appeared in tbe Omaha Bez, written
by some person from Brownville too
cowardly to sign his real name to the
article, about an "Irish peddler" be
ing robbed or relieved of his money
by me or by others, at my place of
business. I not knowing the writer's
name, could not obtain it by applica
tion to the Bee publishers, and the
man said to have been so badly treat
ed by me being gone, and I not know
ing where to- find him, I had no
means of redress or exoneration, and
had to let the matter rest until such
time as I could prove the Bee corres
pondent a liar and clear myself of the
charge. That time has now arrived.
The "Irish peddler" visited Brown
ville again last week, and upon be
ing informed of the story about his
being robbed by me or in my saloon,
voluntarily presented me with the
following, which I have published
in justice to myself and the city coun-j
oil which entrusts me to carry on a li
censed business :
Bbowxvili:, Neb. May 4, '77.
I am informed that it has been said
that I lost money in Wiliam Stevens'
saloon. I wish to state that all re
ports of the kind are false. WijIIam
Stevens has always treated me well.
I was well used in his saloon by all
parties. I never eat a meal of victuals
in hi house, and never played a game
of cards in my life. I am the person
known as the "Iri-h Peddler."
TsoiiAS Cbosso'.
This demonstrates the Irish ped
dler story to have been a malicious
fabrication ; and I will embrace the
occasion to add that several other al
lusions to me and my saloon by this
cowardly and lying Bee correspond
ent, are equally false and unjust, and
I defy him or anyone else to substan
tiate any of his charges. I do not per

tried for talking louder to his wife

witness against Esau was his injured
wife. She testified that just after
breakfast, wanting to do up the work,
requested her husband to take his

her he would take them out just when
he got ready, and not before; and if
she wanted them out worse than he
did she could take them out. She
then gethered the harness, when
Esau, -giho had let his passion get
away with his sense, went for her.
and choaked and pushed her out of
the house, and kicked her twice, and
whipped the little child which cried
at seeing the muss between its par

to cut her throat rather than endure
such treatment; then Esau took the
knife from her and locked the door,
telling her not to come back any

"Well, what about the kicking?''

The Judge fined Mr. Smith $5.00

Within the limits of our own country are
to be found almost all the variations of ell-

I traveler lr a few hours- from the bra
mountain district to the ague breeding plain
and even frsm the sunny groves of the south
to the ice-b?und shore? of the northern lakes
In making these rapid journeys the travel
lers are subjected to those severe climatic In
fluences sOfproductive of sickness and dis
ease. It Is therefore of vitaUmportaneethat
be should be provided with a remedial agent
that" will not only care, butUke wise prevent
sudden attacks of disease. The Seven Seals
or Golden Wonder, which is & counter irri

an anodyne, a nervine and a tonic, is a sure
prevention a no less eQectnal cure of fevers,
ague, aiarrboe, dysentery, and all other ail

self with a supply of this valuable remedy
before starting upon his journey. aprll

Glen Rock.
Unfavorable as the weather ap
peared Saturday evening, the inhab
itants of Glen Rock and vicinity
turned out en mas3. Flying clouds
and falling rain foretold of a disa
greeable night for Bright's concert.
The closing scenes of Prof. Bright'a
singing school, with all the vocal tal
ent he could possibly muster, was to
give our people a grand jubilee from
behind the curtain. Your reporter
faiied to get a ticket to the "green
room," so I am ignorant of scenes
while the curtain was down. First
on programme waa "Chirping," or
girls greeting, behind the curtain.
Next, Prof. Bright's nose was seen
coming through an opening in the
curtain, asking for the attention of
the audience. The curtain was roiled
back. There was the twins Beauty
and Innocence. Foar pieces were
sung by the olass, Miss Rosa Good at
fthe organ. "Greeting Glee," bv a
trio, John Weeks at organ ; good mu-
I sic and loudly applauded. Then tbe
"Gushing Rill," very beautiful, fol
lowed by "Soft Floating on tbe Air,"
or the "Grasshopper Dirge," John
Weeks playing accompaniment. Vo
cal music by a class. M? Grace
Winard sang "Mother in iieaven,"
with Weeks at the organ, -aud made
music that carried our scuis beyond ,
the gloom of this life. "Hunter's
. Horn,' sung by a trio, followed by j
"Hunter's Call, ' quartette.
Mr. Moeley mounted the stage,
and striking the attitude of Richard
III at Bosworth Field, he began his
dittv. Failed shirt collar too t.
Second attempt he shook himself,
and a Etream of music pealed forth.
The Prof, is long winded ; finally he
run down after considerable sighing
on the ladies' side of the room.
Then followed the beautiful "Stars J
at Twilight," by Misses Winard, ,
which made cs think of Heaven and ;
the Golden City.
Comic: Whsskv and Gin, bv Bern-

"Goodnight, Goodnight," was sung
by the class, Mrs. Rosa Good play
