the Nebraska Hallway Company is
now in a most flattering condition.
Confidence in tiie road was never
moie ah-s-ured, among bondholder,
and the public in general. The earn
ings of the road during the past four
mouths have been veiy good, with
prospeutsnfn continued increase. The
amount of grain shipped fnm Seward
over the road is simply immense. We
are aureil that there jx no ijnubt but
that the road will be extended south
thirty miles, to Falls Citv. and west
thirty mllee, to York, early next year

The faces of the Democrats are
not so smiling as they were ten clays

P. Berger's team got away from
his son yesterday on their return from
Nebraska City. Went west, and as
yet not heard from.
The feud between the French
still continues, and Glen Rock is Hot
blessed by having neighbors who are
always in litigation.
On Thursday, November lGth,
the beloved wife of T. Bnuford. of
Glen Rock, departed this life, aged 40
years, leaving a void not easily rilled.
A kind and loving wife, a good neigh
bor, and a true christian.
Did you ever see four young pigs
suck a cow? I have, the past week ;
and at the same farm saw a rat climb
an Oiage fence seven feet high, and a
rat terrier climb the same tree and
bring the rat down. W.

Died, on Saturday the 11th inst.,
Nellie, youngest child of Mr. and
Mrs. Gavitt, aged nine years. The
bereaved family have the sympathy
of a very large circle of friends. Mr.
Gavitt had just returned from a Cen
tennial trip.
The German Methodists are
building a church just east of the
Stone Church about a hundred yards.
It is to be the finest church in this
section-of country.
Corn-husking is going on lively.
The yield is good.
Miss Harper, of Brown County,
HI , has been paying relatives and
friends in this neighborhood a visit.
We learn she starts for home to-day.
Pleasant Prairie lodge of Good
Templars are expecting the District
Deputy to visit them on Friday even
ing next. The lodge is in good work
ing condition.

lison alias Jas. Stewart, confined in
our county jail since last spring, for
burglarizing Mr. Den's store, 'plead
guilty to the charge on last Saturday
morning and were sentenced to the
penitentiary, Blanchard for one year
and Stewart for three years. The lat
ter being known to be an old offender
of the law and having made several
attempts to get away, during his in
carceration, we presume is the reason
his term is two years more than that
of his fellow culprit.
