Mulr thought it somewhat singular that his cow, whose habits are usually very regular, had not been home for some twenty-four hours. He accord ingly instituted a search and in (lie e ening found her, tail downwards, in a drv well, some twentv-five or thit-' ty feet deep, the well being located on the lot corner of First ami Allan-! tic streets. When drawn up the cow, and citizens surrounding, seemed to give vent to a sigh of relief, but the poor animal was unable to use her limbs, nor will . i-he be able to frewly exercise them for i Miiijf days. It Is Indeed with painful pmntions that we to-day record the demise of Sfrs. W. D. Blacklmrn, which event took place at 5 o'clock on Tuesday morning hist. Mrs. B. has been quite 111 for some time past.- At times it seemed as though the vital spark had feaily gone out, when Bhe would' rally, aud her devoted relatives and friends would be buoyed up with the hope that her natural sitting" constitution, and hopeful disposition would' master her disease. But the careful nursing o f father, mother, sister and other re latives, and the zealous scientific at tention of physicians did not avail against the inroddgrof the disease nor prevail against the dread messenger, death. As we write she lies cold and lifeless aid dark shadows suround the hearts of all who knew her in life. For weeks inquires as to her condi tion passed from mouth to ear of all our people, snowing a tender regard for the sick nnd her kinfolk. When she filed the news deemed to spread with the atmnphere, and a generaf gloom prevailed over society.
