"We are pleased to announce to our local readers that Wrill L. Visscher, of the St. Joseph Gazette, will deliv er his inimitable lecture on "Humor and Pathos," at McPherson Hall, on to-morrow (Friday) evening at 7 o'clock. We have known Mr. Visscher for years, and can safely endorse him as a gentleman of ability and high liter ary character. For 3'ears he served under the gifted Geo. D. Prentice, on the Louisville Journal, and was held in high estimation by that old Nestor of the American press. A few-weeks since "Visch," as he is familiarly called, delivered this lec ture before a veo' large St. Joseph au dience, and made an immense hit. He was solicited to write the dedica tory poem for Tootle's Opera, House, "which was delivered lust week, and added much tq his reputation as a po et. "Humor and Pathos" will abound in wit and its counterpart, and lovers of fun and sentiment should be pres ent. We have long heard it said that our city was the poorest in the State for lecturers. We hope to see such an audience on Friday evening as will disprove this declaration. The price of tickets has been put at 2o cents, and the hall should be filled at that. Tickets for sale at Moore's book store. Remember Visscher's lecture Fri day night. r ' Choice beans, hom'iny, meal, buck wheat flour and salt, at Swan & JJro's. GUAr.'D CBENIXG. A Feast for tlie Eyes. On Monday last we spent an agree able hour in inspecting the best and most approved styles of watches, jew el rj, silver and gold ware ever ex posed for sale outside of the larger and more pretentious cities of the Union, and to Geo. S. Dunn attaches the credit of making such r display. There can be found clocks of every variety, Ladies' and Gentlemen's Gold and Silver Watches, with Chains of every 'style and quality, solid Gold and Jet Jewelry, solid Silver Spoons, Silver Napkin Rings, fine Silver Plated Ware, the best Table Cutlery, Seth Thomas and American Clocks, French Mantle Clocks, Diamond Sets, Gold Rings, &c, &c, at prices which will bare comparison vith any house in the west. Any parent desiring to "fit out" his daughter with ear-rings, necklaces, watches or other pretty articles of jewelry apparel, can do so as reodily at Putin's, as though he were in Chi cago or 'Nov.- York , for although his stock highly embelishes his show case windows and shelves, he bought them to sell, and will duplicate there tail prices of Metropolitan dealers. To ladies, young, or those who were lately young, we woukj advise the paying of a visit to Dunn's, there to feast their eyes on the gems which that enterprising gentleman has im ported hither. Efforts, as well as words, are now being used to this end at Lincoln, Beatrice,-&cv and, why should Brownville even dis cuss fh vsltie of a flowiny well, and the strong probability of finding a paying vtin of coal? .1 Railroads, street grading and stone culverts have their advantages and conveniences, "but 'an abundance of pure, resh water, and good, cheap fuel are blessings none can deny. What go-ahead, wide-awake man in our city will stir up the scheme of I sinking an Artesian well, which will develop stone-coal without a doubt, but in case of failure, no loss will be sustained as we will have plenty of water, a necessity to any city.
