river, in Nemaha County, about five mllen south
of the Otoe County line, and nine miles northwest

islative, nnd Judical expeuses of the Kovern
ment for the vear ending Julie thirtieth,
eiKhteen hundred and seventy three, and
for other purposes
He it enacted by the Senate and
House of Ittpresentatives of the United
States of America in Congress assem
bled, That the following Bums be, aud
the same are hereby appropriated, out
of any money in the treasury not oth
erwlae appropriated, for the service of
the fiscal year ending June thirtieth,
eighteen hundred and seven ty-three,
for the objects hereinafter expressed,
uaujely :
LEGISLATIVE.
SENATE.
For compensation and mileage of
Senators, four hundred thousand dol
lars. Aud the proper accounting of
ficers of the Treasury Department be,
aud they are hereby, authorized to
settle and adjust the accounts of the
Secretary of the Senate for compensa
tion and mileage of Senators up to
and including the the third day of
March, eighteen hundred aud seventy
two ; and that hereafter tho fiscal
year for the adjustment of such ac
counts shall extend to and include
the third day of July.
For compensation of the officers,
clerks, messengers, and others receiv
ing an annual salary in the service of
the Senate, viz : Secretary of the Sen
ate, four thousand three hundred and
twenty-dollars; officer charged with
disbursements of the Senate, five hun
dred and seventy-six dollars ; chief
clerk, three thousand dollars, aud tho
additional sum of one thousand dol
lars whiJo tho said oflice is held by
the present incumbent, and no longer;
principal clerk, principal executive
clerk, minute and journal clerk, in
tho office of the Secretary of the Sen
ate, at two thousand five hundred and
ninety-two dollars each ; librarian
and six clerks in the office of the Sec
retary of the Senate, at two thousand
two hundred and twenty dollars each;
keeper of the stationery, two thousand
one hundred aud two dollars and for
ty cents ; two messengers, at one
thousand aud ninety-six dollars
each ; one page at seven hundred and
twenty dollars ; sergeant-at-arms and
doorkeeper, four thousand three hun
dred aud twenty dollars : Provided,
That hereafter he shall receive, direct
ly or indirectly, no fees or other com
pensation or emolument whatever for
performing the duties of the office, or
in connection therewith, otherwise
than aforesaid ; assistant doorkeeper,
two thousand five hundred and ninety-two
dollars ; postmaster to the Sen
ate, two thousand one hundred dol
