"We had the pleasure last week of
making the acquaintance of Dr. J. 3T.
Converse, the well known and respon
sible Railroad builder of tbe-Avest.
The Doctor represents the- party
who have the contract for construct
ing the Brownville, Fort Kearney
and Pacific Railroad, and from his
high reputation' as a railroad man, we
can assure our citizens that this road
Is in good hands, and hope that our
people will do their part to advance
this great enterprise.
Special attention is directed to the
advertised salo of short horns, &c.
in to-day's Advertisek. Farmers
and stock raisers who attend the sale
at Kellogg on the 20th, will be aide
to .supply themselves with, cattle.
horses and farm maehincrv of a first
class character on liberal terms.
The weather the past week has been
everything by turns and nothing
long. Rain, wind, heat and cold
have been profusely mixed up and
dosed out to our people and the con
sequence is everybody is "barking."
In our hurry last week we over
looked in our notes a memoranda rel
ative to the buggy on exhibition at
our State Fair the workmanship of
our fellow citizens. Berkley & Switz
er, which attracted very general at
tention, and the" admiration of every
judge of that kind of furniture. It
was light, yet strong, and in style,
make-up and general finish was tle
equal of any which more pretentious
establishments could turn out. No
one should go from Brownville to buy
a buggy while B. & S. are in the
trade.
We were favored this week with a
visit from our jovial friend, John
Creason. He informs us that he has
been on a visit to the vicinity of
Grand Island, this State, and that the
Platte river there is perfectly dry.
He contemplalea a visit to Dr. Mc
Pherson's town, Republican City
with a view, we judge, of looking up
a pew home. His farm near London
in this county, is offered for sale. It
is a good chance for some one wants a
small fruit farm, to get a bargain.
F. E. Johnson &Co have now got
their new stock of goods unpacked
and marked and are ready to sell
them at prices which challenge com
petition. Give them a call. Ladies
are especially invited to inspect goods.
Wibley is in receipt of a new stock
of furniture and a large invoice of
carpets which he will sell cheap for
cash. Ladies should make a note of
the carpets.
One of the natet stores in the
State is that of L. Lowman in Ma
rohns new building, and in it is one
of the choicest storks of goods ever
exposed for sale in thi section of
countrv.
