We have noticed George Howard upon
the streets several times the past week or so.
He Is gaining strength quite fast for one
who was so reduced by sickness as he for
such a length of time. We hope he may be
come rugged aud hearty and that he may
live a long time to exercise his architectural
ability in building up and bcautiiying the
future residences of Brownville.
Enterprise. Brownville dealers are hard
to beat in any western city. If vigilant care,
foresight and ability in business, coupled
with careful attention to the details will
avail anything, we have no fears for the suc
cess of the merchants of Brownville. Dull
times bring out the inventive originality of
the mm, and weeds out the slow coaches and
brings to the surface those who have the fi
nancial bottom to do business down on the
hard pan.
Economy In the Kitchen. Prudent
housekeepers are ever on the alert to prac
tice economy in the culinary department.
Iu no way can this be done more effectually
than in the use of a Baking Powder which
combines strength, purity ami reuanuny.
Dooley'.-. Yeast Powder has attained the de
served reputation of being economical, con
venient and wholesome, besides which it
will produce Irom a bairel of flour twenty
live to forty pounds more bread, rolls, &c,
than by the old process of raising dough
with baker's or hop yeast. Here alone Is a
great saving, and authorizes the guarantee
that it will give entire satisfaction.

ample we give our business men fair warn-.

firm worthy of their steel. It won't do for
any to rest on past reputation, ov the new
hardware firm will make the home strcach

Nemaha Land Disttict. "W. D. Black
burn has presented us with a well arranged,
well printed, Pamphlet, entitled Nemaha
Land District in Southern Nebraska accu
rately faithfully, and impartially reciting its
resources and capabilities and the advanta
ges it oirers to immigration, prominent
among which we notice Its history, geo
graphical features, geological formations,
soil, climate, agricultural facilities, manu
facturing advantages, educational and re
ligeous privileges. Lands Public improve
ments. Transportation facilities, stock rais
ing, timber, frnlt, markets, growth. count ies
towns, cities, sissessmonts, distance A-c, The
Information upon these points is ample and
reliable. The price is mere nominal twenty
five cents per copy, or ten coplev for two dol
lars. Those wishing information respecting
the two tiers of counties in the .Southern
part of Nebraska, thence west to the moun
tains, will do well to send to "W. D. Black
burn for a copy of this pamphlet.
We have been shown "an act to Incorpor
ate eitles of the second class and to define
their powers-' passed by the present Legisla
ture. It makes all cities containing from
1500 to 15000 inhabitants in the State, cities ol
the second class.
It provides that any City now organized
under the general law approved February 15,
1SC9, and all cities and towns organized under
any special law, may become cities of the
second class by passing a certain prescribed
ordinance. It repeals the general law aliove
refcred to, and all special laws incorporating
eitles and towns.
It compels then all cities and towns incor
porated under special acts to either drop
their organizations or lieeome incorporated
as cities orthe second class, under this new
law. It docs not provide any way by which
towns incorporated under tho general law
may become cities of the second class.
It then unfairly descri initiates between
towns organized by general law in favor of
these organised by special act.
By this law Brownville and Nemaha City
must accept the provisions of the present
law, or drop hack without organization.
Peru and Aspinwall must remainas they are-
lor two years, or until further Legislation
can be had upon the subject.
"We see no good reason for compelling Ne
maha City to accept this law, which would
not at least permit Peru and Aspinwall to do
the same. Cities of the second class must bo
divided into two or not more than six wards
oran equal number of voters". The election j
shall be hold on the first Tuesday in April oi I
eo.cn year, at which time shall bo elected onevi
Councllnjan in eaeh ward
(two at the llrst

Delays are Dangerous. Procrastina
tion is the thief of time; disease may come
upon you ; death may overtake you; and In
an hour, when you think not, you may sud
denly be cut off, and that without- a provis
ion to your family.
For I'm going going to the Wibley fur
niture House to see what those immense
loads of goods landed at his store are com
posed of. Yes, I sec carpets, bed Matresses,
Wall paper, chairs, bed steads, bureaus, ta
bles, but then there is no use ennmerating
for there is nothing in his line ho has not
got, and for sale cheap.
The Rev. T. S. Love, formerly of this
