"Xeftlhardt & Co's Marble Yard. A

pleasant knowledge that, in this line, Brown
vllle can supply the wants of Southern Ne

any point in the west. This Arm havo con
stantly on hand a supply of Marble equal to
any demand that may be made, and the
monuments and tomb stones In their yard,
finished, prove, that as a workman, Mr. Neld
hardt cannot be excelled. While there for

The Closing Exhibition of the winter term
of Mrs J. W. Bennett's Juvenile Class in Vo

evening, was a perfect success. both in the at
tendance and music. The class did them
selves and their teacher great credit and gavo
tho large audience a genuine satisfaction ;
and all went off pleasantly and harmonious
ly. The perfection of this class Is the best
testimonial of Mrs. Bennett's ability as a
teacher of VocalMuslc, and should result in a
much larger class to commence the next
term with, which will begin next Saturday
afternoon at the First Baptist Church. The
compensation, SI per scholar, for twelve les

the one can spare it without feeling it, while
the other we know teaches more for tho love
of it than the pay. Parents, send your chll-drrn.

BRAftCHXXG OUT .
It Is a satisfaction to every citizen of our
embryo metropolis to see our" business men
branching out to see them advance toward
trade In every direction, and still keep their
supply here np to both the retail and whole
sale demand. Thus, for instance, but a few
weeks since, we had thesatlsfactlon of notlce
iug the purchase of the Lumber Yard at
Phelps by J4 R. Bell fc Son, and now we no
tice that the "Sonj" Sim Bell,- hasjfcst been
nt Tccuniseh for the purpose of opening a
Yard out there, 60 says the "Chieftain." Thus
they have control of three Yartls can pur
chase their Lumber on a.largsr scale than
ever heretofore, and Brownvillo is still raoro
firmly entrenched as the Lumber Market of
Southern Nebraska. The Bells are enterpri
sing all over, as will be evident to anyono
who will take the pains to go to their Yards ;
they have In this city millions of feet of the
best Pine Lumber of all kinds, and Lath,
Shingles, Doors Sash, Blinds and everything
else to correspond. These they buy in large
quantities at the lowest wholesale rates go
ing anywhere, and are selling them at the
lowest retail rates ever offered in Nebraska.
"Without defying competition, they still hold
themselves ready to sell the best Lumber at
as low if not lower rates than any other Yard
In the State. Their Yard is corner of College
and Second streets.
THE PICTURE GALLERY
Of Mount fc Bennett, in this city, is the
most complete establishment of the kind in
Southern Nebraska. It has been completely
re-modeled under the new proprietors, who
have made It their aim to give greater con
venience in the preparation or toilet room,
and to increase their facilities fortaking pic
tures. They have now a good large reception
room; a neat toilet room, a room for their
chemicals, and the Gallery proper. In the
Gallery they br.ve one feature which is not
equalled by any we have ever seen, it is a
series of serenes Just below the sky light, by
which the operator can throw the light just
where he wishes, in fact ho has the light en
tirely at his command, and can take pictures
"from early morn to dusky eve;" in fact at
any time of the day. Their picture, case at
the foot of the steps shows that they cannot
be excelled as artists; they ore as good, if not
tho best lot of Ambrotypes we ever saw.
They do work cheap, too, that is Just as low
as possible and make a living. Give them a
call and "catch tho shadow ere the substance
falls" Up stairs over No. 47.

with Improvements for 1S70, are the most
simply-constructed, light draft, accurate-raking,

clcan-cuttiug machines now manufactured.
This is attested by all who havo used them ;
tho "Advance" being considered the nc jim

Commisslou Business. McLaughlin &
Small are now In the Commission Bu&lnessln
earnest. Our farmers will do well to make a
note of this as the market herds rather fluc
tuating; for by this means they may leave
their butter, eggs or other produce with tho
abovo firm on commission, and for a small
per cent, they will sell it when produce may
be up, thus giving the farmer tho range of
the market without bis being to the trouble
to come and sell. Thus eggs or butter often
raise live or ten cents in a day or two; well,
to get tho benefit of that raise, if produce is
low when the farmer oilers, leave it on com
mission with the above firm.

TOWN PRIDE.
It Is a fact that there is a feeling inmost persons
of pride in their locality or town, which Is fostered
and kept up by the character of Its Institutions,
and grows on a community to an extent limited on
ly by the degree of perfection to which they arrive.
Thus,BrownvillianshavearI?htto feel proud of
their Churches, of their High School, of their Store
