' Our city wafl last Saturday alernoon at 3 o'clock the ecene of a stabbing affray which for cold-bloodedness hat few equals. It ftp. pears that Jas. W. Wright and Jos. Catln bach, living on the Sonora Island above this city, while here got Into an altercation about an augur, quarrelling off and on for several hours, using numerous endearing terms to wards each other etlch as "hog thief," "sheep thief," etc About the time above mentioned they were both near Ponn's cor ner, when Wright remarked to a by-stander at the same time whetting up his knifo "I'm going to cut that d ds b h all to hell," pointing to Caslnbach, in so cool a manner that the person addressed paid no attention to it, ; yet, before the person had drawn two buckets of water from the well, Wright had stabbed Cas lnback four times. Wright then sat down on a barrel, when Caslnbach, who had staggered back toward the gutter, came up toward Wright to kick him, when Wright got up and stabbed him ln the diaphram, and, we learn, turned the knife around. When he was caught and taken into custody and Caslnbach was cared for. His wounds were then thought fatal, yet he was still liv ing Monday evening. As will be seen else where, Wright's preliminary trial yesterday resulted in his being remanded to Jail to await the result of the wounds Inflicted on Casanback. The occasion of Wright's corn lag to town, wc learn, was to get medicine for his Infant child which was at the point of death, and did die Saturday afternoon; for getting this he got drunk. Two of his chil dren came down Into In the evening to find their father and get a coin n, but found him In Jail for attempt to murder. More of a comment on drunkenness can seldom be found. He has been in the rebel army. Jos. Caslnbach joined the company formed In this city In 10:2 by Capt. Mathews for the Kansas 2d, and served faithfully till the war closed. If he dies we are glad that capital punish ment is not abolished. V. II. Ilawley, of the Lafayette Mills ln Lafayette Precinct ln this count', will accept the thanks of all hands ln the Advertiser office for a basket full of very choice ripe Peaches. Our friends often remember us whn they grow any choice fruit, berries, veg etables and other good things, which Is no small inducement to us to encourage the planting of every variety known to our climate. Few remember us so often as friend Ha wley. Such men deserve success and pros' perlty for which he has the prayers of the poor printer than which none arc more efTec tive. Farmers Attention ! Few men make more of an effort for your benefit than F. A. Tisdel A Co., for your sake are they constantly receiving Agricultural Implements of all kinds, new patents as well as old; for your benefit' do they have them shipped by car loads to enable them to save money for you ; and for your benefit have they established their Farm Implement Do pot In this city (hat you might select to better advantage from their large assortment of im plements and machines and to obtain extras should anything break without delay or ex press charges. These are truths. And If you understand your own Interest, farmers, you will certainly give this house the prefcrrence in all your dealings, and thus strengthen and build up an institution ln your midst de voted to your Interest. Th Banner Patnt Shop is fast becom ing a public institution. Few of our citizens but have noticed those new and beautiful signs which have appeared on our streets since theadvent in this city of A. W. Lem- mon, of the above shop ; while the beautiful ly finished work on several of our new busi ness houses testifies to the ability of H. H. Bryant, of the same shop, as a house painter. Both are finished workmen. We noticed the other day friend Lemmon engaged on a glass relief fancy sign painted for display at the Fair; it is a gem of artand attracted much attention. The Baptist congregation of our city is waking up to the importance of fixing up their place of worship, and are having it seat ed in good style. This congregation, consid ering its numerical strength and the fact that it has received no aid whatever from abroad, has evinced great energy in getting their house up, and should mectwi.th lilcral assis tance from our citizens In aid of its comple tion. ' Hon. J. E. Laramter, U. S. Collector In ternal Revenue for Nebraska, called last Fri day. He is in this sect ion looking after mat ters pertaining to his department. In him the country has a faithful and efficient offi cer, one w ho will reflect credit upon the par ty in power by seeing that the Government llevenue is faithfully collected. Those Bridge. Munyof our citizens have expressed themselves w illlng to donate' in ln aid of a Hrldc across the branch on 4th st. between Main and College. This is a bridge much needed now that school has again com menced, and is, perhaps, next to the most traveled crosssng of this branch. It roust be lixed now soon, as it will be almost impossi ble to cross in winter if left as It now is. We hope our enterprising Council will take this matter in hand, and with the aid of citizens build a good substantial structure.
