A girl and two beaus did homeward go
From where they'd been a dancing ;
Their feet felt light, and dark the night,
Towards the ditch advancing.
Bald she: Pll give to you one hand.
To you I'll give the other;
And that big hole right In the rood
We'll miss It without bother.
Right fol de dol, right fol de dol, right fol de

Tho largest took a leading part
The night was dark and pitchy ;
And chatting gay as any lark
Fell right into the dltchy.

And muddled np her dress, sir;
And strange to tell, the third he fell,
"Aided by the rest," sir.

"We ars sorry to note that In our commu
nity lives a something that can write, which
knows neither the sublime power of music
nor has an appreciation of the respect due a
lady. We allude to the "poet" (?) of last
week's Democrat, who sought at "one fell
swoop" of his pen to brush away th poetic
laurels of "Fanny Lee," and the well -earned
fame of the Brownville Cornet Band. Hatred
of lovely woman and music are ''twin relics
of barbarism," for Shakspeare says of such:
"Preposterous ass ! that never read so far
To know the cause why Music was ordaln'd !
"The man that hath no music In himself.
Nor is not moved with Concord of sweet
Hounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils ;
The motions of his Spirit are dull as night.
And bis atfectlons dark as Erebus : -Let
no such man be trusted."
He says this is bis first effort: It will be
"money in his purse" to make it his last ; for
the Band will not suffer from such Bcarrelous
attacks, and Fanny Lee cannot. v

New Counterfeit Dodge. R. C. Bergcr,
of the Alharabra, handed us the other day
a circular signed "Dally A Co., 208 Broadway,
N. Y.," which contains the most startling and
bare-faced proposition to swindle we ever
heard of. They offered perfect rfac-slmlle8

the counterfeit for $20 of the genuine. It is
the most open perhaps, therefor, less per

we simply publish this that the public may
be on their guard. Mr. Berger desired to fill
the Injunction of secrecy, and gave it to us
and we ask the public to help us keep It dark.

SPECIAL NOTICES.
i THE KIDNEYS.
Tre Kidneys are two in number
situated at the upper part of the loin, surrounded br
nor, the Interior, and the Kxtrior.
The anterior absorbs. Interior consists of ti.tsues
or veins, which serve as a deposit for the urine and
convey it to the exterior. The exterior is a conduc
tor also, terminating in asingle tube, and called the

oer.
The bladder Is composed of various coverings or
tissues, divided into parts, viz.: the Cpper, the
Ix)wer, the Kervous, simI the Mucous. The upper
expels, tlie lower retains. Many have a desire to
nrinaie wuuout tne ability to retain. This frequent
ly occurs in children.
To cure these affections, we must brinsr Into action
the muscles, which are engaged in their various
functions. If they axe neglected, Gravel or Iiropsy
may ensue.
The reader must also be made aware, tlyt how
ever slight may be the attack, it is sure to aTTect the
bodily health and mental powers, as our flesh and
blood are supported from these sources.
Gout, or Rheumatism. Pain occurring ln the
loins is indicative of the above diseases. They oc
cur in persons disposed to acid stomach and chalky
concretions.
The GraveL The gravel ensues from neglect
or improper treatment of the kidneys. These or
pns being weak, the water ts not expelled from the
bladder, but allowed to remain ; it becomes feverish,
and sediment forms. It is from this deposit the
stone is formed, and gravel ensues.
Dropaey Is a collection of water In some parts of
me uouy, ana Dears dillerent names, according to
the parts affected, viz.: when generally diffused
over the body, it Is called Anasarea : when of abdo
men. Ascites; when of the chest, Hydrorhorax.
Treatment. Helmbold's highly concentrated
compound Kxtract Buchu is decidenlv one of the
best remedies for diseases of the bladder, kidnevs,
gravel, dropsical swellings, rheumatism, und gouty
affections. Uuder this head we have arranged Dy
suria, or difficulty and pain in passing water, scanty
secretion, or small and frequent discharges of wa
ter; 8trangnry, or stopping of water; Hematuria,
or bloody urine; Gout and ltheumatism of the kid
neys, without any change in quantity, but increase
of color, or dark water. It was always hlgblv recom
mended by the late Dr. Physick, in these affections.
This medicine increases the power of digestion,
and excites the absorbents Into healthy exercise, Jy
which the watery, or calcareous, depositions, and
all unnatural enlargements, as well as pain and in
tlamation, are reduced, and it is taken by men,
women, and children. Directions for use and diet
accompany.

H. T. IlKLXBOLD. Druo-irlst :
Deab Sir I have been a sufferer for upwards of
iwt-uiy years, ounng wnicn time l bave usea vari
ous medicinal preparations, and been under the
treatment of the most eminent physicians, experi
encing but little relief.
. iiavinx seen your preparations extensively ad
vertised, 1 consulted with niv family physician in
regard to using your Kxtract Buchu.
I did this because I had used all kinds of adver
tised remedies, and bad found them worthless, and
some quite injurious ; in fact, I despaired of ever
getting well, and determined to use no remedies
hereafter unless I knew of the ingredients. It was
this that prompted me to use your remedy. As you
advertised that it was composed of buchu, cubebs,
and Juniper berries, it occurred to me and my phy
sicians as an excellent combinaation, and with his
advice, after an examination of the article, and
consulting again with the druggist. I concluded to
try it. I commenced Its use about eight m onths ago,
at which time I was confined to my room. From
the first bottle I was astonished and gratified at the
beneficial effect, and after using it three weeks, was
able to walk out. I felt much like writing you a full
statement of my case at that time, but thought my
Improvement might only be temporary, and there
fore concluded to defer and see if it would effect a
perfect core, knowing then it wonld be of greater
value to you, and more satisfactory to me.
I am now able to report that a cure is effected after
using the remedy for five tnonUis
I have not used any now for three months, and
feel as well In all respects as ever I did.
Your Buchu being devoid of anv unnlea.ant taste
and odor, a nice tonic and invigbrator of the sys
tem, I do not mean to be without it whenever occa
sion may require Ha use In such affections. --'
