It Las been said that "well-educated

land rent at $2 per acre? If not, do
we not mislead others by such figures?

A late nrticle by our correspondent,
W. B., of Grundy county calls out the
following:
In lS-'i I procured a quantity of
seed; and about the 20th of June,
sowed nearly ten acres at the rate cf
one-half bushel to the acre. I had a
very fair crop cutting some twenty
tons.
I feed it to both horses and -cattle.
My four work horses were fed on It all
the time, and I noticed no bad effect
from it, and I was, in fact, highly
p! eared with It Our land being new,
we Lad but little Timothy.
In I sowed about the same
amount; Let there Vein;? a frost near
ly every month during the eeason, it
did not do much only gave me one
half ton per acre, and that did not ma
ture. Stock did remarkably well on
it
In 1SG0, 1 tried ten acres more, and
never saw anything grow so thick and
rank. I think it gave nearly four tons
per acre. It 13 my Impression that it
will make more Iced jr acre than any
other crop that we Lave. That year I
fed it all the time to horses, and work
ed them Lard on the farm, and they
kept in good condition on les3 graia
than on any other hay.
Cattle do well on Ilungarion, and
Logs like It, and thrive on it All
fowls like it, but I think that it saps
the land more than an v other crop,
for I Lave not been able to get any
crop from the land cn which it grew
Li 1SG0. Think I shall not sow it any
more, for cn. that tea acres I Lave Lad
to put one Lundred loads of manure
to make it yield equal to land adjoin

Prof. Low, of the Cornell Universi
ty, in a treatise on "garget" and it3
cause, says : , -
"Diseases of the teat3 will sometimes
induce garget,as when they have been
injured by the reckless use of teat
tubes, or, if the milk Is only partly
drawn off, in consequence of open
sores, resulting from foot and mouth
disease, cox-pox or warty growths.
But the retention of milk in the ad
der is not the only evil attendant" on
bad milking. Some milkers seize the
root of teat between the thumb and
fore-finger, and then drag upon it un
til it slips out of their grasp.. In this
way, teat and udder are subjected to
severe traction for an indefinite num
ber of times, and in rude hands, are
often severely Injured. The proper
mode of wilking Is to take the teat in
the entire hand, and, after pressing it
upward, that it may be well rifled
from the capacious milk-reservoir
alxve to compress it first at the base
between the thumb and fore-finger,
then successively by each of the three
suYlixg fingers until completely
emptied. The teat is at the same time
gently drawn upon, but any severe
traction is aitogeuier unnecessary,
and highly injurious. These remarks
on the mode of milking, and those on
milking clean, are of more moment
than many at first suppose; and in
some localities more cows are ruined
from faults of this kind than from all
other causes which act specially on
the udder."
