In last week's Democrat we notice an ar
ticle very beneficial to Its advertisers. In so
much as It counsels families how to make
a show on a very small capital. It Is to the
effect that one need not patronize merchants,
furniture dealers, etc, bat bang together
longes, get spreads and cover .old tables, use
no carpets, etc., linpljingall the way through
the article that to buy anything was equiva
lent to being swlndeled. On reading the ar
tide it occurred, to ns that the stuff thus
gathered together would be nothing after It
was finished, and that if men would tend to
their proper calling, they would. In a country
likr this, whore everything bring a good
price, get along much better. We have good
mechanics and tradesmen who can make or
sell a Rood article cheap and much better
than any botch can bang It together.
