pulse of patriotism, the love of self, or the
love of home comforts. It Is a fact that will
cheer and make comfortable your homes ;
give the smileof a new-born love to wife, and
"put money lh your purse;" yea, though there
bo already muny who have round tills well
spring of Joy, there "may yet be a fow be

J. B. Hoover called on us last Tuesday. ne
has ln store at Nemaha City a splendid lot of
General Merchandise and Is selling very low.
In looking over Atlantic street, and the
tunnel through the hill at Its foot, we can see
no good reason why the water from the hol
low north cannot be conducted through It to
the river. Nothing has occurred since the
miserable failure In this that has rendered It
less necessary than when first attempted.
The culvert across Main, between Levee and
First streets. Is old, and liable at any moment
to cave ln; then a new one will have to be
built, or the tunnel brought into requisition.
Besides this, the foot of Main street Is very
unsightly, and good property Is rendered al
most useless; and further. Levee street, be- i
twecn Main and Water, always will be a
plague spot, so long as the water from the
north hollow, and every other hollow in tbe
city is drained Into and across it. We hope
this matter will be attended to ln time to
meet the spring rains.
Hogs The season has again come around
when hogs running at large are a perfect nu
isance. To say nothing of the nuisance, we
liAve yet to see the person who will admit
that it pays to keep hogs Tunning at large.
More are lost than would pay for fattening
the balance. ' It is also rather hogish to' keep
more hos than you can fred, to prey npon
yonr neighbors i-r a living, at a greater ex
pense to them' even than of benefit to you ;
for a hog can do more damage ln a garden In
half an hour than i is worth.-' Wc have a
good pcu, and need a hog or two. We shall
hereafter pen up those that bother us, and see
howit works. - We have alrcyvdy lost more In
nails and wear and tare of soul, than a wil
derness of hogs are worth.. So look out up
our way.
The human family la bo nnmeroun that
a birth and a death occur every moment.
Every second a child is born; every second
sonic one dies. The prevalence of sickness
in the world may be realized ln Dr. J. C.
Ayero Laboratory, where medicines are
made for all mankind. It would scarcely
sscnl that there are throats enough to swal
low the doses he Issues dally, Aycr's Sarsa
parllla, and Cherry Pectoral by the thousand
gallons and Ayer's Pills literally by the ton.
But they must all be wanted, or he could not
make such quantities for so many years.

Having Purchased Mills in the Pineries
of Saginaw, Michigan, with one Million Feet
Dry Pine Lumber on hand, it has compelled
me to procure larger grounds for my Lumber
Yard. Therefore I have rented the lots on the
corner of First and Water streets, where I
shall put one of the largest stocks of Lumber,
Doors, Blinds, Sash,: ettf:( west of the Missis
slppl, and every body knows, or shall know,
that the Saginaw Lumber Is for superior to
any pthcr Lumber. ; 'S-. -

The only really practical and successful
rake Is acknowledged to have no equal, and
can truly be called the King of all Rakes. "It
numbers Its friends nearly by ten thousand,
and not one of them dissatisfied.nor one rake
ever returned. It is more simple ln Its con
struct Ion, has no superfluities, and not liable
to get out of order. It is very easily opera
ted, as a boy twelve years of age can work It
with perfect ease. On rough ground It far
excels all others, because It Is constructed In
such a manner that the whole .weight of the
head with twenty "teeth rests on anyone
tooth, and the teeth, ty having a double coll
above, are much stronger and more elastic
than others ; and ln consequence of this It
will rake or bunch up where no other rake
can, and Is strong enough to rake corn stalks
off the field, for which purpose many of these
rakes have been sold, and they give entire
satisfaction. Sold by F. A. Tlsdel, Jr., 4 Co.
