AXXCAL ELECTOR Of tins Officers of the Nemaha County - Agricultural Assentation. - ' T ' ' JCOTICE Is hereby given that In accordance rlth Article 2uJ of the I3y-Lawa of the Asso ciation, the Annual Election of Officers for the Baine will take place o Saturdayy March rrth, at 1 o'cloclc, p.rtL,'in the front T"Otf of the Advcrtiter oflice, In Brown vllle. ' . 1 'ATull attendance Is earnestly reqnestexT. . , , IL O. MLNICK. Secy. The election of officers of thn 2Ce maba County Agricultural Society is held on next Saturday, in IJrown ville, commencing at 1 o'clock, in the Editorial room of the Advertiser office. It is quite essential that the farmers, Ftock -growers, manufacturers, and mechanics of Nemaha County, attend and nee that efficient and good men ujc. put at the head as managers for the present year. The interests of the County and of the Society demand this at our hands. The business sho'd not Lcleft for one or tw o to perform. There should be a full attendance, and Ve hope there will be. Remember the time and place, and see to it that the meeting has the benefit of your influence and counsel. A full meet ing will nerve up the officers elected to work for a good fair. If they find that the people are wide awake, then they will work with energy to meet their expectations, and we shall have a time next fall such as has never been known in Xemaha County. Then Ieud a day, and come to the election next Saturday. A meeting of the citizens of John son County was held In Tccurruieh re cently, and an Agricultural Society formed with a view to the holding of an Agricultural Fair the coming Fall. Johnson is a good farming and stock growing county. Her citizens are en terprising and Intelligent, and will ap preciate the benefits resulting to the laboring class by maintaining yearly County Fairs. In this way each far mer lias a good opportunity to avail himself of the combined new ideas and improvements of all the others, and a spirit of legitimate rivalry or ambition to excel is excited among all, which tends to improvment in farm ing, better mechanism, and finer stock. The society will prosper, if good officers have been selected, iw much depends upon their energy and enter prise. Still every other man can per ferform efficient labor ; and must, to make the Fair a real bucccs3. , - Clifton, March 10, 1SG9. Mr. Editor: I saw the notice in the 'Advertiser last week of the time ap pointed for the election of officers of oar Agricultural Society, but it was Impossible to attend. In the Advcrti scr of this week I do not see any ac count of the meeting, and nothing said as to who were elected. "Will you please give us this information. We ' have had some irregularity with our mails for the last few weeks, and did not get your paper for near a week after date, and some numbers we never got. "We hope, hereafter, that our mails will be more certain, as the difficulty with our juail carrier, occasioned by a change in our post office, has been satisfactorily arranged. D. B. F. Our friend from Clifton is informed that there were but few out to the meeting, as then appointed ; conse quently the election was adjourned until the 27th, next Saturday. Sec notice this week. Dear Sirs : Yours of the luth I am in receipt of, in which you ask it I have atlj' objection to sending vou for publication, the facts I am acquainted with. In relation to the character of the Waller tfrape. I have never indorsed the character or usefulness of vines, or otherarticles of any descriptlon.and would not at mv present stage of life were it not for two reasons which seem sufficient. First, I know the Walter Grape will meet the prejudices widespread throughout the couutrv, caused by theworthlessness In most localities af many Of r predecessors Sec ond because I can say from personal observation that the Walter is the best rarlety I have had any knowledge of. and I think I have cultivated nearly all that have been recommended, discarding them all and falling back upon the Concord and Hartford Prolific as vinevard varieties. I am interested in knowing that the fruit of the Wafer grows larger each year as the vine grows older, being last year fully one-third larger than it was two years ago. It grows well ; set fruit well. I have seen it ripe sev eral times before Hartford, and I have never seen anv mildew onlts fruit or on its large and thick, but Delaware Hhojied foliage. The flavor of the fruit I think superior to any other variety. Y'ou say in vottr circular it Is a seedling of the Delaware and Diana; I think thecharacter of each of these varie ties Is quite distinguishable In the Walter, particu lurlv that of the Delaware. I alsd think ft would make a wine of high character. I have visited it annually since it first Ixjre. six years ago. three times in Ulster Co., N. in a low valley, where the Isa bella seldom ripens, and each time it was fully ripe in August. I have seen tt each or the three past sea sons in Foughkeensle, rijiening at the same time, excepting last year, when the constant rains pre vented all varieties from maturing at their usual time, but it perfected its fruit by the nJddte-of Sep tember. The raisins of the last mentioned crop I have seen and eaten, which were good. From its succoding In the low valley and tenacious clay of Mouena," and also in the dry slatey position in Poughkoesie, I think it will lie well adapted to the varied sections of our country- You may make whatever ue of these opinions you deem proper.
