EE WARE OF COUNTE RTE ITS. In a time like
this, when rascality is rife in every department of

fraud of this kindj and a protection Js now offered

June 10th, 1863. -
DRY GOODS. There has been no feature oT
special interest to report in the Dry Goods market
since the date of our last. The trade has been lan
guid, and prices have ruled weak and somewhat
lower for some makes of Domestic,' especially
Brcwn snd Bleswhed Sheetings and hirting?, and
Denims and Tickings. The decline in prices has
not increased the volume of business-to any extent,
as no concessions in prices can tempt buyers to pur
chase beyond the extent of their immediate wants.
Ihe quantity of goods ro'd this spring has becnti nu
eually small, owing, to a great extent, to the back
wardness of the season, and partly to other causes
no less' apparent. All are, however, looking to the
fall trade for compensation for this disappointment,
and if the crops should turn out as bountiful as tbey
promise, a large and satisfactory trade must be the
result.'
Prints in light styles are moving slowly into con
sumption, and the demand continues limited ; large
patterns are difficult to sell unless at a reduction in
prices. Medium work i: scarce, and some agent are
asking an advance of Ic on these styles. Raw Cot
ton at the close is dull and a shade lower, selling at
ZOo for Middling Uplands.
The New York Chronicle in commenting upon the
market says ;
We preceive by the latest advices from England
that the same depression exists in the manufacturing
districts there, and that many mills are working on
short time in order to reduce production. Such a
course has been proposed here but no concerted ac
tion has been arrived at in Ihe matter as it is gen
erally believed that such stringent measures are un
necessary. Nevertheless, there is no doubt but. that
the usual stoppage of some mills at this season of the
year, for cleanio? and repairs, will be prolonged be
yond the average period, so as not to overstock the
market at the commencement of the fall campaign.
