FRUIT promises to be a bountiful crop this sea-
season, small fruit especially. We never saw tame
grapes make a better showing, we noticed a Tine in
Col. Furnas' garden the other day not over three
feet high on which were over fifty bunches, atd he
has bucdrcds more which are nearly as well filled.
Currants, Gooseberries, and all small fruits give aa
good promise as grapes. While Apples, Peaches
and Plums give promise of a good yield.
DEMOCRATIC CLUB. We learn that the Dem
ocracy of our city have organized a Club. This we
haii with unfeigned pleasure, as it gives the Re
publican party a s quare opposition, a something to
fight that at least has ' a loeal habitation and a
nutne." "It retchs a feMow like b II to nick at
nothing." Judye Little. And we are further
pleased at their immense satisfaction over the es
tablishment of the Club, and wish it long life.
TnE COMMISSIONERS have done a very good
deed in ordering a Stone Culvert at the school sec
tion just beyond the Hatinifvrd Culvert. John
Montioth has the contract for building it and has
alreauy entered upon the work. This, with the cul
vert in front of James Coleman's farm, gives us a
good road to the Nemaha. And the main thing
now to be done to complete the good work, is for
this city to grade Main street to the main road.
PROF. R. V. WILSON, of Chicago, will Lecture
in the City of Brownville, on the evenings of the
27tb,:th, 29th and 30th, inst. Subject: Harmo
nial Philosophy more generally known as Spirit
ualism. Mr. Wi!3on has the reputation of being
one of the most able and eminent Lecturers upon
that subject in the United States. This will be
something new in one city, and a rare opportunity
to investigate, and test, to some extent, a subject of
which many have a curiosity to learn.
T. R. FISHER has just returned from a trip thro'
the Nemaha Land District, bringing with him a large
list of new subscribers for the AdtertUer. Here-
ports crops generally in good condition, and im
provements going aheid rapidly. He is about es
tablishing a paper at Pawnee City, which will ap
pear about the middle of June. This will be a good
medium for our merchants to advertise in and reach
for the trade of one of the richest and most flourish
ing sections of Nebraska.
OBITUARY. We arepainod to notice the death
of "Omaha," a full-blood Terrier, owned by Col.
Furnas of this city. Ue was literally "chawed up"
by several big dogs last Saturday and expired on
Sunday. He went w ith the Colonel through the In'
dian campain of '62-3, was the pot of the 2d Ne
braska and smelled powder at the battle of White
Rock Hills. Ue was a good dog and great 'y attach
ed to the Colonel and many members of the regi
ment with whom he served. The dogs that killed
him deserve a "button."
THE SCHOOL MASTER AT HOME. Y'ester-
day's Journal in describing some of last's year's im
provements, has the follow ing strange sentence :
' There is an improvement to the M. E. Church
property that we omitted, JudreReynold, two lots,
cistern, tf c cost stven tr eight hundred dollars. The
Judjre iffors to sell this house at a bargain."
We fire authorized by Judge Reynolds to deny the
charge that he "offers to sell" the church.

THE CIRCUS has cm?, p erformed and guie, all
three performances were much to the satisfaction of
many of our citizens. The Orton Brothers are gen-
emUy Celcomod wherever the go. Their stock was
pretty well used up having ma le the trip up from
Texas this Spring. One of their horses died in the
harness just before reaching this city. Saturday
evening considerable excitement was created by one
of the Camels, whijh, bee iningobstrop9rou, broke
outside the ring, when the women and children
went for back seats, and one young man, with a
very "open countenance," in his hajte to get out of
d-nger, stumbled, dislocated hi3 finger and fainted.

A New, Solid and Attractive Fiaancial

The exten-ivo Saint Louis clothing house of
Messrs. Win. Young f- Co. have just inaugurated a
new financial enterprise, persenting so innny impor
tant features and of so original a character, that wo
think it desirable to devote some space to an ex
planation cf the scheme ; but as it is intimately
connected with "The Guardians' RealEstata Sec
urity Company', of St. Louis, it is necesstry that
we refer first to the character and standing of this
instiuti'in.
The Guardians' Real Estate Security Company
is an incorporate I institution with $10t),00D capital,
ehartf red by the State of Missouri for fifty ye irs,
and the stockholders are made liable by the Con
stitution of the' State fur d uble the amount of
their stock. Tho object of this company is to re
ceive rr.'iney on deposit or to loau it out on real es
tate security and to grant roversionary endow
ments. It is similar to an ordinary savings bank
with this important exception it doo3 not allow
the doposits to bo withdrawn at any time tho de
positor nny desire, but issues its endowment cer
tificate for eight timas the ainiunt of the deposit,
payable at tho end of thirty y ears. Tho Company
is pcrmited to loan it3 money on revl estate onlq,
and it cannot advance mjra than three-fourths of
the cnth value of the property. It will be seen
that Tho Gurndians, Real Estate Security Com
pany is established on the most solid and per
manent basis, and when we add that fha Board of
Directors is comiojed of such men as A. r. Shap-

believed that any obligations entered into by this
Company w ill bo met in a prompt anl satisfactory
manner.
The chief feature in Messrs. . Win Young fc Co's
undertaking is this : when a customer purchases a
bill of goods for casd, they present him with the
endowment certificate of the Company referred to
for tho full amount of the money received by them
for the goods. This secures to the purchaser the
return, after thirty years of the full amount of all
the money he has invested in tho purchase. The j
arrangement is so exceedingly adv.mtageou3 to
the buyer that on the first view of the case, it
seems an improbability. An intelligent examina
tion of the principles upon which it is based will
show, however, that it is nit alone advantageous
to the buyer, but also to the sellor; and further,
that tho scheme if conducted in conformity with
the strict mithemUicnl principles on which it is
founded, will enable the fLm to soil tbeir gods
bdovo current rates and at the some tiin?, earn
larger profits than heretofore. The undertaking
is a very extensive one, and necessitates the invest
ment of a large amount of capital.
Wo will now explain how this scheme will prove
advantageous to Messrs. Wm. Young Co.: sup
pose acustomer buys a bill of toods amounting to
$8,000, Messrs. Y. k Co. invest $1,000 of this
amount with the Guardians' Real Estate Security
Company, and received an endowment certificate
for $3,000, payable to bearer at the end of thirty
years. This certificate they donate to the pur
chaser of the goods. In order to make the $1,000
deposited for the certificate to produce the re
quired $3,000 within thirty years, it needs only to
be invested at ten percent, interest, compounded
annually, at which rate it will produce $13,410,
or $9,440 more than the face of the certificate.
The sum is net profit to the Company and as the
members of the firm of Wm Young Cc. own a
very large part ot the stock of The Uuard'uns' Real
Estate Security Company, it follows that they will
share in a very large degree this profit. There is
ona way by which the arrangement will: benefit the
firm. The next is in the enormous increase of
tradothatit must necessarily porda-je. As soon,
as merchants understand that they can buy good3
from this firm as low, or lower, than elsewhere
and secureree of coat, endowment certificates in a
responsible company for amounts equal to the sum
paid for their goods, self interest will impel them
to deal with this house. Such a genuine and im
portant advantage can hardly fall to draw merch
ants from all parts of the country to the St. Lou g
market ; and on this account the merchants of St.
Louis are indebted to the firm which has origina
ted the scheme. It will benefit the whole trade of
the city in a much larger degree than supperficial
observers would suppose. Tne third benefit i3 in
the character of the trade it will secure, namely :
a ready cash trade. The losses on a credit trade
in the best of times are heavy these losses will be
saved. But the advantages to the firm are small
compared with those accruing to the buyers. Just

They possess the additional odvantage of being
as traniferable as a National Bank note, which
mikes them marketable securities, bearing a definite
market value frcm the day they are issued.
