The recent meetings of the Nemaha County Agricultural and Mechanical Association hare been well attended, tod an unusual interest manifested. As will be seen by the proceedings of the last meeting, the time and place for the coming Fair have been fixed, and it is opened to the whole world. It is the in tention of the managers to make the comicg Fair one of the most extensive ever held in the West. Let all prepare fcr it ; begin now. Early Rose Totato Is the newest variety of importance. TVe see by the Eastern agricultural pa pers that D. S. HirrREN, of Ulica, N Y., sold to a party in New Jersey one hundred and fifty bushels for ten thousand dollars over sixty dollars per bushel. To another party the same gentleman told at eighty dollars per bushel. The Editor cf the American Agriculturist sriys he has seen a letter to Bliss & Son , in which cne hundred dollars was offered for a buihel of the Early Rose. This potato is being retailed this spring at five dollars per pound, V.liat Ailed (lie Bees. The following, in reply to our enquiry relative to our dead swarms of bees, is from Wm. McLennan, Esq., of Ne braska City, and confirms our first im pressions : "Editor Advertiser : I see by your number of March 19th, that a swarm of bees was lost, being strong and plenty of honey left. The cause was undoubtedly the hive did not have sufficient upward vcntilUtion. The dampness was con pealed on the comb so the bees could not reach the honey; and the weather re maining cold until they had eaten all in their rrich, they starved to death. Winter your bees in a warm, dark place, or Lave plenty of upward ventilation." The Premium List and awarding com mittees for the coming Fair of the Ne maha County Agricultural and Mechan ical Association?, are cow in the hand of the printer, and will be out at the .earliest possible day. The Board Lave emitted to offer on behalf cf the Society, payable from the Societies funds, premiums for speed of animals. But private purses will be made up and offered in time for all who wish to run, pace, trot or walk. A fine list cf premiums are also being miae up 10 De awarded to female eques trians, for horsemanship either in saddle, double, single and tandura harness. There will be nothing left unprovided that will either amuse or interest those who may attend the Fair this fall. Apples for Nebraska. A committee consisting of H. K. Ray mond, W. II. Gkogg, and Jno. Gilmore, appointed by the Otoe County Farmer's Club, have reported the following list of apples as being hardy and reliable here. TLe committee are men of extensive ex perience, and their report is reliable. Our own experience and observation sustains their report ; SUMMER APPLES. The study of astronomy is almost indis pensib'e to a correct understanding of Mathematical Geography. Wrhile Rhet oric, Logic, and their kindred sciences aid very much in Grammar, especially in the analysis of sentences; History, Philosophy, Physiology, Chemistry and Botany are certainly very great helps to a teacher in making his school interest- down the scale, and beat time. On motion the admittance fee was fixed at twenty five cents. The name of the society was on mo tion changed to "The Nemaha County Agricultural and Mechanical Associa tion." On motion, the committee to award premiums were appointed, and will ap pear in the published list. On motion, the Fair of 1SCS is to be held at the same place as the Fair of last year. On motion, the Fair is open to "the world" for competition in every article in-the premium list. Such a teacher has an elevating influence ; his pupils look forward, with eager hearts, to the day when they shall be as wise and learned a their teacher.
