Agricultural. Wire Fence. The following item we cull from cor respondence lo an exchange: The wire should be telegraph size. No. 9, costing about 12 1 2 cents per rod delivered here. Four is the average number of wires used making 50 cents per rod, or S160 per mile of fence. 60 rods of No 4 wire for cross ties 11 ft tach way from the posts S15. Posts two rods apart 160 per mile '20 cents each making thirty-two dollars. Total two hundred and seven dollars, per mile of fubst'antial fence that will last a lifetime if kept well painted.' This kind of fencing has been long practiced, but somehow has never met with reneral favor. We still continue in the belief that, live fence is the only fence worth buildiDg in Nebraska, and the cheapest ; yet there was one thought uggested by the above, would not a fence of one or two wires be the very cheapest protection while raising a hedge ? Much difficulty is experienced by the new far mer in protecting his hedge until it will do to turn out. Asa general thing the protecting fence coats - more than the hedge. The above indicates that a wire fence is far cheaper than a wooden fence . this being so, would no: a two or three wire fence be the cheapest protection for a hedge? Think of it ye who would hedge but for the expense of protecting it with a wooden fence. A corre?pondent of the Canada Far mer gives the result of his experience in iiinor an It in ii fertilizer of wheat. He - ays: "Last Spring I thought I would try it, and 1 bought su barrels, and applied one barrel to the ncre, on three acres uen . cese Club" Spring wheat; at the same time I sowed half a barrel across five ecrpi of wheat in another place. Now for the result. The three acres shot out five davs before the same variety sown side by side on ' the tam day, and the strip across the field I can see as plainly as if the one was wheat and the other oats. The reason. I applied salt in the Club wheat was this : I have been troubled with straw breaking, and salt is highly recommended to stiffen the straw; wheth er it will or not 1 cannot say yet. but I can say that the wheat 1 salted keeps far ahead of the re6t. However, by harvest I will be able to tell you if it keeps the atraw bright and stiff, and if the wheat will ripen sooner. Few farmers or owners of wagons and carriages appreciata ihe value of this Utile instrument a wrench and, failing to do to, foot many a costly bill in needless repairs and new purchases. You cannot allow one part of machinery to work loose from its fastenings without injury to all the rest. At least once a month, every nut and bolt in the running gears. cf, a wagon or carriage should be examined and tested with a wrench. By this precaution, the carriage will be preserved and accidents avoided. So im portant is this, that artillery officers are compelled to report to the Ordnance Department how often the nuts are turn cd upon artillery cariages. Kas larmer. How the Girls take Kissing. , The varied, emotions excited by young ladies in leading cities along the line from Boston to Saint Louis, as kisses are caught and stolen from their sweet lips, are expressed in something like the fol lowing manner. ' A Boston girl fays (with an assump tion of indignation): Sir, I declare such a liberty as that is beyond all bound of propriety and gentlemanly manners. I 'I she is stopped by another which is not resisted very badly. The Ne'vYork girl says: "Indeed. Mr. Brown, your conduct is a little familiar, if not ardent. I've half a mind to a$k you what you ae me for?" The reply of Mr. Brown is that he tnkes her for soiueting nice and sweet: nnrl lirp. rapid slacking ensues. The Buffalo girl says, with marked pos itiveness of manner, but with equally marked insincerity Wretch, thief, put that right back; I wouldn't lose it for the world." She not only don't lost it, ,but gets (as she want') double principal and interest. 'The Philadelphia girl says So yea think that's dreadtul smart ; you wouldn't have done it if I bad been look . ing no indeed." but she makes it a point not to look. The Baltimore girl says 'Repeat the insult if you dare, sir" and exposes her face that it may be done ea sily and often. The Washington girl re mark: '.'You've been nd gone aud done it, have you, now cipher out how much better you feel, and calculate when you will get another chance " The Chicago girl says: "Confound your impudence do you take me for a New Yorker 1 I'd have you lenow there is a spice of dan ger in that little matter." The only danger she apprehends is that you won't cut and come again. The Cincinnati gsrl aays : "Did you ever no, I never you men are perfect monsters." Affects in dignation and tears, but is assuaced by a duplication of the old dose The Lou isville girl says: "You've done it sure, and well. If you can stand it I can." The Detroit girl says: "Mien Jerusalem what a naughty, funny man. Better you look out how you take one. two, four more, before mine goot mother comes." The Saint Louis girl says : "Oh. go long with our nonsense; you ought to be a thamed of yourself. You can't do it a rain." Shs eiposes herself, and it is jiorje again sereral times.
