Along the bottoms of the Missouri river fever and ague is only blightly prevalent during the most rainy seasons. Nebraska as a State, possesses all the advantage which other Stales have, and seme that other States have not. The Stasons, iu Ntb.'a.-a are b-itu r adapted to 'agriculture than those ot mat.) of the Middle and Western States. Spring opens, more or less with high winds, lasting for one or two week. et seldom does it blow so strong as 10 pre vent putting in crops early. aiu the soil is belter and earlier prepared for recetv- ug seed, the extra moisture being sooner evaporated, by these winds. A back ward Spring is the exception. Sum mer's ho'iesi months are July and Au gust, yet night generally brings with it a cool, pleasant breeze, which makes r-si after a hard days labor really an eujoy nent. aud sound, healthy deep possible. Autumn is the pleasantesi period in our year ; most favorably commeLted ou and geueraliy liked ; it is full of the luscious ne.s of the ripe year, without a mark or Memisn. Light rains aud a buhy breeze ; good roads and fine weather for gathering crops, is the general rule. In a. an sufi.rrur often extends until within a few weeks of ChriKtoits. The t4mt quarter that gives us a heahhy braxg atmophere, also gives us keen, sharp, searching Winters. The SoU. ot Nebraska, is a light sandy loam, of a dark brown color. On the high prairie it is good soil from two to twr-ai)d-ahaf feet in dt-bih. The soon er our farmers lake to ub-foiling the better it. will be for them. The soil ou lb bouuus is of a darr. richer natur and much greator"dptb than on the high lands ; it does not bake hard and form hard pan n top as in places where blue clay is fout.d, as our bottoms are maii.ly made Iand3 frora decaying vecitHtion and net from deposits from overflows. It is remarkably adapted lor s'andirg drought, clthough a severe trial of this has not occorcd during our experience of eleven years. We have repeatedly, after a warm dry spell of four or five w?!:s da ring July or August, taked up the toil to see how far down it had dried out. and icvaribly find the soil damp ai the depth of four or five inches. The above remarks are founded only on experience in soalhera Nebraska. era 11 1 a North and South Piatt is made by the j Piatt Rirar emptying into the Missouri between Dooglas and Can eotssties, 72 n.ils fr.o tte Km..s l,i,e.
