I.Iuch is said about Education, r.nd
much should be said. Here perhaps will
the importance cf correct training cf
children, b-3 fully seen, until each indi
vidual Letrs h'13 final destiny at the "Lstt
Day."
Perbsps parents and Qcardiaca cf
ycuth are n:t always fully conscicu.cf the
fact that children are continually beicg
educated. As scon as the little being
start3 out into the world, he has commen
ced to form a character, and it may be
moulded into learning, by being encour
aged to hatita cf thought; by cultivating
in him benevolence, kindness, gentleness,
forgiveness, charity, love and temper
ance. Bat if he is left without proper culture,
his character will present selfUhnes?, ha
tred, rudeness, unklndness, cuarrelitg
revealing, and intemperance ; springirjg
up into luxurious growth. The least and
only way which presents itself now to
educate ths entire mass of children; is
the Free School system. Each ch.ld
should be educated, whether its parents
are able cr inclined to do it cr not. The
Free School'system propose this, and let
the friends of education see that it is
faithfully carried cut.
We were pleasantly entertainedr and
'tauch'gratifitd at the closing exercises of
the Spring term of the District School in
London Neb., July, COta. The Schcol
Ffcemtd to b e undr good discipline. The
children manifested quite an interest in
their studies, and gave evidence that
they had learned something.
The schocl and those in attendance
were addressed by Judge Hewett cf
Brownville. Hja remarks were very
appropriate, taking all things into consid
eration perhaps nothing could have been
said more to the purpose'.
The people in London have been pecu
liarly fortunate in securing the service of
Mr. Robb as teacher. Many who are
etachers have learning enough, but lack
the ability of imparting it to others, some
fail in governing a school. This seems
to be the great difficult in teaching school,
in Mr. Robb, unite all the qualifications
of a school teacher. He seems just fitted
for it. .
' Judga Hewett in his remorks to the
children, told them they were of great
importence to their parents, so much so
that tney would rather see all their prop
erty ; .everything they possess taken
away than give, up their children.- Ev
ery parent who has laid a child in ths
grave can fully feel the truthfulness of
thi. remark.
Then if our children are so dear to u?,
Ut us be awake and active iu doing ai
we can for the happuie?i and usefulness
of them in this life, and direct them t
the source of Eternal Life in the world
to crune.
