ced to form a character, and it may be
moulded into learning, by being encour

forgiveness, charity, love and temper
ance. Bat if he is left without proper culture,

only way which presents itself now to
educate ths entire mass of children; is
the Free School system. Each ch.ld
should be educated, whether its parents

We were pleasantly entertainedr and
'tauch'gratifitd at the closing exercises of
the Spring term of the District School in
London Neb., July, COta. The Schcol
Ffcemtd to b e undr good discipline. The
children manifested quite an interest in
their studies, and gave evidence that
they had learned something.
The schocl and those in attendance
were addressed by Judge Hewett cf
Brownville. Hja remarks were very
appropriate, taking all things into consid
eration perhaps nothing could have been
said more to the purpose'.
The people in London have been pecu
liarly fortunate in securing the service of
Mr. Robb as teacher. Many who are
etachers have learning enough, but lack
the ability of imparting it to others, some
fail in governing a school. This seems
to be the great difficult in teaching school,
in Mr. Robb, unite all the qualifications
of a school teacher. He seems just fitted
for it. .
' Judga Hewett in his remorks to the
children, told them they were of great
importence to their parents, so much so
that tney would rather see all their prop
erty ; .everything they possess taken
away than give, up their children.- Ev
ery parent who has laid a child in ths
grave can fully feel the truthfulness of
thi. remark.

Sec. .1. Be it enacted ly ihe Council and
House cf Representatives of the Territory
of Nebraska, That the forms hereinafter
prescribed, numbered one and two, shall
be deemed sufficiently, technical and cor
rect, and may, with necessary modifica
tiuns, be used by justices of the peace,. 'in
all cases where they hive jurisdiction, to
try and determine ihe charges preferred
against any person for'a violation pi the
laws of this territory.
Sec. 2. It shall be the duty of .the
county clerks cf the several organiz'ed
counties of this territory to proctire from
the secretary of this territory copies of
this actN, and the county clerk of eaoh
county of this territory, ia which a pa
per is published, shall procure the pub
lication of this act in a newspaper pub
lished at the .county seat of the proper
county, where all of the printir.gjrequir
ed by law to be done in the county shall
he done'.' for 'the period of three "weeks ;
provided, that a greitor sum than ten
dollars shall in vo case be paid in a
dounty for such printing.
Sec. 3. The secretary of the territory

Sec. 4 In ail criminal prosecutions
instituted under the criminal laws of this

Sec. 5. The mode of impanneling ju
ries in criminal cases shall be as follows,

First. Twelve men. having the quali

in the jury box, why shall, if either par
ty desires it. be sworn to answer ques
tions touching - their qualifications "to
serve as jurors.
Second, When the pannel is full 'and
the right to challenge for cause no longer
exist?, then the order of challenging shall
be by the attorney prosecuting for the
territory, challenging one juror peremp
torily, or waiving his rights so to do, and
then by the accused challenging two ju
rors, or waiving his ri;ht to challenge
orw or both of them, and so cn alterna
tely, until the challenges are all exhaus
ted. Third, Whenever a peremptory chal
lenge is fnade, no other challenge shall
r.rain be made until the vacancy so caus
