Hon T. W. Tiptcs, U..S. Senator from
South Plate, reached his home in this
city last Friday afterrxon, the same ur
bane and unassuming gentleman he was
ere his well-deserved elevation, 'wearing
his honors with an ease and grace which
becomes better natures true noblemen,
than does the -crown and. sceptre the born
yriace.
In the evening about two hundred of
ihe citizens of this city called upon him
at his residecca, and were treated to
an eloquent speech, and viand refrerh
iag to the inner-maa.
Wc sii.certly regret that we are unable
to report Mr. Tipu.u in full, and lhat
more did not he?.r. His brief speech will
fill with renewed ensry those loyal men
who heard it, and r.rengthen them in thr
struggle for true freedom now going oo
on this continent. He look fur his plat
form the Constitutional Amendment a
the present ultimatum of the true Union
party, and discussed and placsd ii3 mild
ness toward rckeb, its fairress toward all
sections and the necessity for its iidop
tion to eecure pence and permanence to
ihe Union, so clearly before his hearers,
that all came away pleased wi:h ihe ad

he was honorably discharged. His bro

Yesterday morning we received a let
from St. Joseph, this envelope bearing
our address, with Geo. Francis Train s

we were indebted for the favor enclosed.
The contents was a slip of' paper, j ub

then struck-off in extras for cur e?pecial

The Peppletcn adjourned meeting was
the largest Democratic meeting ever
held m Otr.aha, and was addresstd by
ihe Democratic talent cf that city. A
series of resolution were pissed, and
Poppleton and Morton were elected del

The Senatorial vote ia the Nebraska
Legislature was:
For T. W. Tipton, 29. j

Tipton's majority, 8.
For John M. Thayer, 29,
. For A. J. Poppleton, 21,
Thayer's majority. S.
Showing tliat thre? Democrats must
have become disgusted wiih their leaders

As Ccnress will adjourn cn the 23d.

ih crowd cf business ere the close cf
the Session, no cflort will be made before
this Congress.

At the July term of our County Court
one John Parlestir.e. a' crippled soldier,
and resident cf Peru, made application
for a license to retail liquors in tbe town
of Teru, backed by a petition signed by
between ten and twenty:five citizens of
that Precinct, and tendered the amount
c money usually required. At the same
time, another petition, bearing the sig
natures cf about one hundred citizens cf
the same Precinct, was placed before the
Court, praying that no license be granted
for the sale cf malt, spirituous, or vinous
liquors in the town of Peru. Up"n the
itieng.h cf which latter petition the
Court :erused to grant the licence.

of universal freedom. Though desiring
tc see American honor- maintained, the
enforcement of neutrality towards a
power which had violated it during our

Ireland, seemed to us uncalled for ly
any sense of justice or honor. It is by
these

is through this sense of honor that Am
