Scrofula, or King's Evil,
is a constitutional disease, a corruption of the
blood, by which this fluid becomes vitiated,
weak, and poor. Leing in the circulation, it
pervades the whole body, and may burst out
in disease on any part of it. No organ is free
from its attacks, nor is there one which it may
not destroy. The scrofulous taint is variously
caused by mercurial disease, low living, dis
ordered or unhealthy food, impure air, filth
and filthy habits, the depressing vices, and,
above all, by the venereal infecucji. What
ever be its origin, it is hereditary Li the con
stitution, descending from parents to children
unto the tliird and fourth generation ; " indeed,
it seems to be the rod of Ilim who says, "I
will visit the iniquities of the fathers upon
their children."
Its effects commence by deposition from the
blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in.
the lung, liver, and internal organs, i-j termed
tubercles; in the glands, swelling; and on
the surface, eruptions or tores. This foul cor
ruption, widen genders in the blood, depresses
the energies of life, fo that scrofulous constitu
tions not only suffer from scrcfilous com
plaint?, but they have far less power to "with
stand the attacks of otlicr diseases1; conse
quently vast numbers, perish, by disorders
w hich, although not scrofulous in their aiaturc,
are still rendered fatal by this taint in the
system. Host of the consumption which de
cimates the human family has its origin directly
in this scrofulous contamination; and many
destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain,
and, indeed, of all the organs, arise torn or
are aggravated by the same cause.
One quarter of nil our people are scrofulous ;
their persons are invaded by this lurking in
f, efion, and their health is underlined by it.
To cleanse it from the svstcm we nnt renovate
the blood by an alterative medicine, asnl in
vigorate it by healthy food and exercise.
Such a medicine we supply in
AYEITS
Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla,
the most effectual remedy which the nodical
skill of our thncs can devise for this every
where prevailing and fatal malady. It is com
bined from the most active remeduls that have
been discovered for the expurgation of this foul
disorder from the blood, and thi rescue of the
system from its destructive consequences.
Ilence it should be employed for the cure of
not only Scrofula, but slso thoe other affec
tions which arise from "it, such as Er votive
and Skin DisKAsr.-?, St. Anthony's Fine,

"We are mailed here to ofTcr the community a
remedy which, while it cures the above complaints
with certainty, is still perfectly harmlets jn any
quantity. ISuch a remedy is invslm.Lle in district!
where these aiEictir-jr disorders prevail. This
"CcnE" expels the miasmatic poiiron of Feveh
and Agce frcm the system, and prevents the de
velopment of the disease, if taken on the ir:t ap
proach of its premonitory symptoms. It U not oidy
the best remedy ever yet discovered fer this class
of complaints, but also the cheapest. The larce
quantity v.e supply for a dollar I rinr-s it within the
reach of every Ixsdy ; and in bilious districts, where
I'EvrR axd Aocb prevails, every tocy should
have it and use it freely both fir cure pnd protec
tion. A preat superiority cf this remedy over any
other ever discovered for the speedy and certain
cure cf Intcrmittents is that it contriiis no Quinine
or mineral, consequently it produces no quinism or
other injurious e!!ects whatever upon the' constitu
tion. Those cured by it are left as healthy as if
they had never had the disease.
Fever and Ague is n0l alone the consequence of
the miasmatic poison. A great vaiif-ty of disor
ders arise from its irritation, among which are
A'citratyia, Rewatism, Gout, Ihadiche, Llind
ncss, loothacht. Earache, Catarrh, Asthma, Pal
pitation, Painful AJTcction cf the Fpkevt, yfrr
ies, Pain in ths Bowels, Colic, Paralysis and De
ra?ufvt:w?it of the stomach, all of which, when
originating in this cause, put on the i ntcrmit'wtit
.type, or become periodical. This " Ci iiE " expels
the poison from the blood, and consequently cures
them all alike. It is an invalu: ble prc tcction to
immigrants and persons travelling or temporarily
residing in the malraious ditrirU. If taken occa
sionally or daily wlu'.e exposed to the infection,
that will be excreted from the system, and cannot
accumulate in suiTUicnt quanthy to ri pen into di
ease. Hence it i even more valu:ihi j for protec
tion than cure, and few wiH ever suffer jjom Intcr
mittents if they avail themselves of the protection
this remedy alfords. " ;
