A COMPLETE PICTORIAL OF THE TIMES.
HARPER'S WEEKLY.
SPLENDIDLY ILLUSTRATED.
Price Six Cents a Number; &30O a Year.
Critical Notice of the Prett. .''
It j fresh learc, its clear type, its entertaining
yaritj, its pevere but just criticisms upon the follies
of the times, its ekgartly written ami instructive
article?, and its able correspondence, all combine to
make it the model newspaper of our country, and
one that every family must prize. Its condensed
weekiy summary of foreign and cfoinettic intelli
gence is altogether superior to that contained in
any other journal. Being published, too, in a form
for preservation and binding, if taken care of as it
deserves to be, it will bo found in future years as
welcome a companion for the family and fireside as
the day on which it was first persued. .V. Y.
Evening Post.
We would not so often call attension to Habper's
Wkkkly if we were not well satisfied that it is Ue
ltt family Paper in the Vnited faf, aud for tbat
reason, and that alone, we desire to fee it under
mine and root out a certain kind of literature too
prevalent, which blunts the morals cf its readers,
vitiates their taste for sensible reading, and is al
ready bad in its effects. Sew London Adcerlieer,
Wherever we go in rail-cars and steamboats
we find it seized with eagerness, because of itspir
itod sketches of passing events. We all like to
look at the faces 'of men we have read of, and at
ships and forts that have figured in the bloody
scenes of war. Of all such men and places, and
events, this paper furnishes the best illustrations.
Our future historians will enrich themselves out of

ers, and publishers are turned to dust. X. YEvan

McCORMICK'S
Reaper and Mower
MANUFACTURED AT
O lii oag o. 111.
This celebrated machine i bv all oddstbe BEST
GRAIN AND GRASS CUTTER IN THE WORLD.
Notwithstanding the misrepresentations of those inter
ested in other machines, C. H. McCormick & Bro. man
Dfactuje at the rate of 8,000 per year, Many changes
have been affected during the past season, and for 1862
the "McCormick" is presented with greater attractions
than ever before. As a reaper,
THE ECOXOJIY OF POWER.
IN TEI3 MACHINE, ITS
Strength, Durability, and
Simplicity,
give It preference over all others New improvement,
added, have materially lessened the direct draught,
and so obviated the tide draught that many assure a i
that It does not now exist. The drught of the Reaper
is so lirhtthat in numerous lnstauces the Urge four
horse machine la worked with but two horses.
FOR MOWING,
The Machine of 1862 will stand any test that may be
applied. ,Our Guard and Patent Cleaner effectually
prevents choking, no matter what the condition of the
grata, while our new divider point separates baldly
lodged and tangled clover or grass, where other ma
chines fail.' ' .
There is also" a great advantage in bur serrated sickle
edge over the smooth, as It does not require sharpening
so often, thus saving time. Our sickle will frequently
run through an entire harvest without once grinding,
while the smooth edge must be ground once each day,
if not oftner. With a smoth edge the draught increase
as the knife becomes dull. Our draught Is uniform,
and in the repeated trials during the season of 1860 61,
proved far lighter than single Mowers, cutting at the
same time from twelve to eighteen inches wider.
Our Mower can be used with or without the reel , this
Is Important, as without the reel it weighs hut about
870 pounds. . . .
la addition to the very liberal warrantee given to
all purchafers, we would say as heretcftjre, that farmers
who may desire It, are at liberty to work our machine
through the harvest, with any other, and ksep and pa;
for the one preferred.
