Sheriff Coleman, of this county arrested
ci?;ipleof horse thieves on Sonora Is
land, two miles above this city. The Is
land has b-en suspected for som1 time as
tt ing the rendezvous of a gang of thieves.
This mornins: Sheriff Coleman with a
posse of men went up and arrested ten
Tysons charged with being connected in
rious ways wiih the horse and cattle
thieving going on in this region for the
T3it year or two. They were all taken
to Nebraska City.

Trial or Scales-
We have seen a statement of the recent
official trial in one of the principal coun
ties of this State, of twenty-five Grain
and Stock scales. They were the ordi
nary out door wagon scales, and were
tested just as they were found in common
use, thus making it one of the best possi
ble practical tests. Sixteen of them
were of Fairbank's make, and nine ot
various other kinds, including some which
have been claimed as superior to Fair
bank's. The result showed a remarka
ble degree of accuracy in ihose of Fair

demmed as not suflitieri'ly accurate for

Governor Kirkwuod of Iowa has receiv
ed a letter from thft Ordnance Bureau,
stating that 1.000 Sharp's Carbines 1.000
Colts pistols, and 1.000 cavalry sabres,
together with accoutrements and amuni
tion have been ordered, from the United
States arsenal at New York. Thpse arm3
are for tbe protection of the frontier.
Captain Bee v" th regular army whose
cowardice in ihe Spirit Lik.i troubles in
18-37. received th hearty reprobation of
all. finally turned rebel and after having
been made a brigadier general in the
Confederate army had the good fortune
to be killed at Bull Rm. Uamilton (To

It is considered unnecessary to crowd
the Secretary of War by further applica
tions for military apointments as there are
no vacancies excepting su-'h as have been
reserved for meritorious noncommissioned
officers and privates. A respect for
this item of information will save much
trouble to officials as -veil as asoirants.
General McClellaii has issued an order
that all regiments hererfter rceived in
the service of the Government must
have blue uniforms and that as far as
ihe grey and other colored uni-form-
