.Telegraph to BrownTllIc it is
now a fixed fact that we are to have a
telegraph line to this place. and that very
shortly. . The locating corps of engineers
reached. here yesterday, planting stakes
fcr the poles. Theodore Hill, cf this
City received a heavy contract to furnish
poles, has the most of them ready for de
livery. Within a fortnight or two we
will be. exchanging lightning dispatch
es with our friends East.
Snsar Mills. We again call the at
tention of farmers to the advertisement
cf Douglas & Brothers, Manufacturers
of sugar mills, sugar evaporators, and all
kinds of sugar making apparatus, Znnes
Tille, Ohio. These mills, after a test of
three years, have proven themselves supe
rior to all others, having given perfect
satisfaction. We have consented to act
tZ agent for this territory, and wtlltake
pleasure in giving all desired informa
tion. In a few days we will have on hand
one of the small sized mills. Will far-
mers call and examine, and leave their
orders. It would be well for four or five
neighbors to join in ordering a mill, where
it is not convenient for each one to get
one of their own.

ClOrlOUS Rain On Sunday last, this
section of country, for a long time past,
suffering from drouth, was visited by a
copious and thankfully received shower,
which thoroughly soaked the parched
earth. It was just in time, and is vTPrth
to this county alone, thousands.
"Tho latter rain,it falls in anxious baste,
Upon fce sun-dried fields, and branches bare,
Loosening, with searching drops, the rigid waste,
As tf it would each root's lost strength repair.
On Wednesday we had the benefit of
another fine rain.
; Eaxcfccs Co's Nursery, Oregon,
HO. To the proprietors of this extensive
Nursery, and Green House,1 at Oregon,
Mo., E. H. Bcrches & Co. we are in
debted for a liberal supply of bedding
plants, received by steamer Hesperian.
We intended to call attention to their es
tablishment before, but have neglected to
do so from time to time. It is near us,
so that per? : : can visit and select for
themselves, or order and receive returns
in a few days. The trees and shrubs are
raised in our own soil and climate, and
the proprietors are reliable, experienced
and trustworthy gentlemen. These are
all desiderata of the greatest , import
ance, especially in the business in which
they are engaged. We know our peo
ple hereabouts have had enough experi
ence with foreign tree pedlars, and urge
upon them, for their own good, to pat
ronize home nurseries, where they can
be accommodated. Bcrches & Co, have
an extensive nursery in which can be
found every desirable tree, shrub, vine,
evergreen, cr "flower, cf quality and at
prices the best, and most liberal. They
are engaged in, and propose to make the
grape vine .business a speciality, and will
be able the coming season to fill orders
at eastern prices, and guaranteeing true
toname, and of Tigorxrus healthy plants.
Read their 'advertisements. We will
receive and forward orders when desired.
A Shabby Railroad A few weeks
since we had occasion to travel over a
portion of the "Pittsburg, Ft. Wayne and
Chicago railroad." Of all shabby roads
it was ever our misfortune to travel over,
this one is decidedly ahead. The cars
were antiquated and dilapidated ; while
in motion, there was a constant rattling
of windows, doors, backs of seats, imper
fect wheels, &.C., in sound resembling
"ye Caliope," or the joint music of forty
cracked Chinese gongs. It required all
the physical power possessed by passen
gers to retain their seats, such was the
"bobbin" motica of the cars. It is a sin
to treat travelers in such a style, and
there ought to be a statute at large pro
hibiting the running of such machinery as
we found on the road mentioned between
Lima, Ohio,and Ft. Wayne, I.nd. ,
Documents. Again we are placed"
under obligations to our indefatigable del
egate in Congress, Hon. S. G. Dailt,
for supplies of valuable public documents.
The RlTCri is yet rising rapidly ; has
risen at this point several feet within the
last twenty-four hours.
U- S. Express CO. To the obliging
rce?wrer cf the United States Express
!
Dayton and Michigan Railroad.
This road running from Dayton, Ohio,
through Troy, Piqua, Sidney, and various
other points to Toledo, has but recently
been completed through. It was our
pleasure, not long since, to pass over some
hundred miles of the road, and we take
great pleasure in bearing testimony in
favor of its superior construction and
management. The grade is remarkably
even ; the rolling stock, fine and com
fortable; and every attachee of the
Toad, from general superintendent, to
news-boy, attentive, punctual and gentle
manly. At Lima, we met our "ancient
friend," Mayo, who has held the posi
tion of Master Machinist, on this road
from its commencemeet, and was invited
to look through the extensive machine
shops at that place, but was prevented by
want of time.
The Dayton and Michigan Road has
encountered many disadvantagous cir
cumstances in its construction, but the
indomitable perseverance, and superior
business qualifications of its Board of di
rectors has overcome all, and the road,
running as it does, through the central
part of the great State of 'Ohio, cannot
fail to pay, if not immediately, at no dis
tant day, handsome dividends.
