As announced, ihe editor has left for a pleasure excur ion through the Eastern States. We tope for his- recuperation, mentally and jl.jfically. Editors, generally are iii some respects like other men. We hope tit do not err in our prognosis that all the editorial fraternity Wea, will be the re-cipints- of. many benefit? from the trip, tad through this channel, our country, at k'rje, may look for analogous results. lei the West be faithfully and correctly represented, and who can foresee the eight y destiny that awaits her? Health or Nemaha Connty. The pfnerality of persons designing to re move to - a new country wish to know ts to lis health; indeed this is the all tborbing inquiry with nil classes of peo j!e. The soil may be unequalled, the coJnt'ry well supplied with water; timber asav exist in abundance, and there be no advantage in location ; yet with all of ihesev if deprived of hcalih, it is dis fircsesse'd of the most valuable and invit ing atjraction. .We- think it can be safely said, that Nemaha is, with few exceptions, a heal th y coutjty. The diseases are of a mi asmatic nature, and yields readily to sim ple remedies. All new lands in the west, more or loss, generate the cause of chills. In a few years after the settlement niid cultivation of the soil, we seldom hear of a" general prevalence of that complain'. Our county has but a small show of z Jnr.'iJs; is rolling end gradually slcp- d to I i:. l:i:r!i::'s f all persons who i;r. home in the west, and no one need in dulge any fears as to his health. Our whole territory is free from many of those strious diseaes known in the East. Carriage IlakCrS.We call alien, lion to the advertisement cf S. E. & J. B. l3r.nKi.Er, Carriage and Wagon Ma kers. We are glad these gentlemen hare located here such mechanics are need ed. We have seen some of Berkley's work in Wagon Making, and are free to say that in our opinion it is No 1. We hope the new firm may meet with abun dant success. FlrC- -Saturday last a sudden change came over the scene in our City; the hum of business was suddenly hushed by the startling cry of "fire," from the clcthing emporium of Siecle S: Green caum, and immediately the street was crowded with cur startled citizens, ready to aid, with buckets, sprinklers, basins, etc., which aid was cot required, as, by prompt action of those on the ground, the fire, which was in the celler among some shavens, was extinguished before any material damage was done. It was doubtless caused by the unpardonable negligence, awkwardness or "malace pre pence," of someone; in either case, we hope it will be a warning to our citizens in future. Knickerbocker, for May, is before us, rich, racy and pungtm as ever; the "Editor's Table" is spread with the choicest viands of the season ; an hour spent at which as the adage has it "laugh and grow fat" would doubtless at enormously to the reader's waight. Its general contents place it in the van of the American army of Magazines. The Huntsman's Echo. We ac knowledge the receipt of No. 1, cf u neatly printed, well edited and indepen dent paper with the above title, published by J. E. Johnson at Wood River, Buffalo county, N. T. Mr. Johnson, after having pioneered it in Iowa, seems treading on the heels of the "lone Indian" in pur suit of the "Star of Empire" with his "engire of civilization." We wish him the utmost success in his enterprise; and with joy welcome the Echo may its reverberation against the Hocky Moun tains be heard to the Atlantic. Dcn'S Shoes are fine and neat fitting; we know; speak from the book; wear a pair fine gaiters presented to the edi tor with the compliments of Den. We smile, and incline the head and body for ward sligbtually. Nemaha County Violence Com mittee will meet Saturday next at 2 o'clock, in Johnson's Hall, over Siegle Sc Greenbaum's Clothing Store. Important business will be brought up. cr tl...j The BrOtfmille Boys Hare Left. After many das of preparation, the i line of inarch was taken up for the Te ak.' Some of our best citizens were among the number.. A few of them have taken tluir families, determined, we suppose, to sojourn in the Und of modern 'Ophir,' until the tale is told one way or the . other. Others have left their families ; in our city intending id return in the fall, I fortunate, or unfortunate, will continue to ..make thir home here.
