8. ir. Frame & Co.
In our advertising columns is found
the advertisement of R. ,W. Frame &,
of Peru. They propose to do the nier
cantile business of that section of coun
try, and we see no good reason why they
should not. Mr. Frame is one. of the
pioneers in this 'county ' is well' known,
and enjoys the reputation i an upright,
straight-forward dealer and, business man.
He understands, too, the True secret of
success as a business man, and acts ac
cordingly, viz: patronizes the printer.

lectures In Brownrlllc,
Have become one cf the "fixed institu
tions." They are the most interesting
feature of our City this Winter. We
have listened to several courses of Lec
tures delivered during the Winter months,
to various Literary Association? in the
Fast;' but never any superior to, the pres
ent course in Brownville, so far as they
have yet been delivered. For rhetorical
excellence, sound logic, and profound phi
losophy, they would have done honor to
any , Literary , Association ia the 'Ath
ens of America," ,: " ' ; ' t':"
The lecture last Thursday evening, by
Judgs lltwrTT .was fdly eqiral to any
that had preceeded'it. ""TheTsubject was,
Manfest Destiny of the' United States.
His premises were, 4That by a. careful
ttud'y of the events of history connect
ed as they are in an unbroken chain of
ciuse and effect and the circcumstances
of the present condition of nations, we
can trace with protable certainty the ca
reer and destiny which awaits them."
He believed "Our Manifest Destiny to
le one of Social, Civil and Religious Im
rrovcrnent." . The race produced in this
country springing from a mixture of
the. best blood of all nations would be
as superior to the pure Ariglo-Saxcn, as
the Saxon was superior to the Celt.
We have not space to give a complete
fynopsis of the discourse. Much of it
was devoted to Intellectual Philosophy ;
a coinparascn of the moral, intellectual
tad JEsthetic condition of the Americans
with tli Greeks and Romans; and to the
character of the present politicians of this
country. lie did not think the Union
would be dissolved. "We had not yet
accomplished our mission. We were the
light and hope of the World. Providence
had not raised up this nation and com
mitted so many vital interests to its care,
to leave it to be precipitated to im
media leruiu."
U. C. Jojjnson lectures this (Thurs
day) evening, on "Tha Historian, the
Statesman, and the Divine."
The Weather I ' :
, Has been quite sharp the past week;
thermometer as low as 15 degrees below
ero. The bridge over the Missouri is
now, thoroughly repaired, and bids fair
to hold good for some time. '
Prlratc Boarding.
Mr. J. W. Swan is prepared to ac
commodate boarders in a very superior
style. His residence is large and com
modious and pleasurably located; and
besides, everything is gotten up and kept
la the best and most comfortable manner.
Corn.
There is already considerable corn sold
farmers in this county to the Produce
toen in this city. One house alone has
cked and ready for shipping per first
boats in the Spring, over' 7000. bushels.
The price is yet t.o low, however, that
none except those compelcd to sell will do

A History of all "Religions
Containing ai Statement of the;
Origin, development, Doctrincu
..and Government of tlie Relig
ious Denominations' In Europe
and the United States,
With Biographical Sketches of Eminent Divines,
by Samuel M. Smuckcr, LL. I).- Published by
Iluane Rulison, Quaker City Publishing House, 153,
South Third Street, Philadelphia. . ;
The subject ofR.eligion and tho Doctrines cf sects
must always have an absorbing interest for the
thonghtful observer, and a work , which affords the
desired information, in a convenient and accessible
form, at a moderate price, ha3 been urgently deman
ded, and will bo sought for with avidity, and mnst
command a largo sale.
In tho present work, the origin, dcvclcpemont.
doctrinal beuer, ennren uovernmcnt ana peculiari
ties of over eighty different religious sects, are trea
ted in ft style clear, compendious and accurate, and
will afford all tho information wnicn imgnt be pro
cared with great difficulty and expense, and much
labor and research, frcm the larger polemical works
and encyclopedias.
Dr. Smuckcr has evidently prepared this work
with much care, and it exhibits great ability and
learning. The articles on the different religioiJ3 are
very impartially written, and show the caref ul study
of an unprejudiced and sound mind ; and tho im
portance and value . cannot bo too highly estimated
of such superior and unbiassed effort in a work of
this kind, as too often, those pretending to givf cor
rect information upon such subjects arc prejudiced
in favor of some particular sects or denominations.
Mr. Rulison has brought out this great work in a
very handsome fofnv ani tho public is indebted to
him for a very valuable, instructive and useful book,.
The price, $1,00, is remarkably low for such a work,
and in order that it may have a rapid and extensive
circulation, be will send it to any address, accompa
nied with a valuable Gift, on the receipt of the price
and twenty-fivo cents to pay postage. ,
: iir. Rulison will send free, on application, his new
enlarged and revised Catalogue' of Rooks and Gifa,
containing all information- relative to tbe establish
ment cf Agencies in the Gift Book business. Ad

in operation one of Homer t Co.'s fiour mills of the
latest patent, and the tirst brought to this Territory
They were induced to exchange their former mill
for this one, from the high character they have gain

millers who have tried them throughout the Western
States, aud in view of tbe jn-rcascd demand for
grinding which will exeocd that of any previous
year in Nebraska, regain eg a mill that will do the
work better and quicker than airy heretofore in ope
