W. Tipton. We have not the tpace, either is it necessary, to give it more ban a brief notice. The subject he chose ;r the occasion, was a comparison of two the greatest orators the world has ever rocJuced Demosthenes and Webster. The conclusion Mr. Tipton drew from comparing the . oration of Demosthenes n the crown, with the speech of Daniel 'tVtbster in reply to Mr. Hayne, was, that .Lis oration of the "Great Expounder of ,he Constitution,' was not inferior in force of style, or clearness of expression, md that it contained less malice and less -otism, than the greatest production of .he most renowned of Grecian orators. The second lecture will also be deliv ered by Mr. Tipton, on Saturday even ;'r;?, Dec. 21th. Ladles' Festival. D. L'ublished by Iu:ine Kulison, taaker tity ruonsning xiouse, 00 Snnth Third ferrcet, Philadelphia. The subject of Religion and the Doctrines of sects t -l ? t a r il. must always navo an aosoroing tnteresii iur ine thonhtfnl observer, and a work which affords the desired information, in a convenient and accessible form, at a moderate price, has been urgently deman ded, and will be sought for with avidity, and must command a large sale. In the present work, the origin, developcm:nt. doctrinal belief, Luurcn uovcrnnient ana peculiari ties of over eighty different religious sects, aro trea ted in a stj-le clear, compendious and accurate, and will afford all tho information which might ba pro cured wira great difficulty and expense, and much labor and research, from the larger polemical works and encvclopedias. . Dr. Sai-acker has evidently prepared this work with much care, and it exhibits groat ability and lenrninj. The articles on tho different religions arc very impartially written, and show tbe carclul study of an unprejudiced and sound mind ; and the im portance and value cannot bo too highly estimated of such superior and unbiassed effort in ft work of this kind, as too often, those pretending to give cor rect information upon such subjects are prejudiced in favor of some particular sects or denominations. Mr. Rulion has brought out this great work in a very handsome form, and the public is indebted to him for a very valuable, instructive and useful book. The price, $1,00, is remarkably low for such a work, and in order that it may have a rapid and extensive circulation, he will send it to any address, accompa nied with a valuable Gift, on tho receipt of the price and twenty-five cents to pay postage. Mr. Rulison will send free, on application, his new enlarged and revised Catalogue of Books and Gifts, containing all information relative to tho establish ment of Agencies in tho Gift Book bnsiness.
