lor: There shall be a town clerk, appointed by
the board of trustees, whosedutyitsball be to keep
true minutes of all the doines of fiid board at all
their meetings, to see that all ordinances arc publish

publication, aud perforin all otherduties pertaining

t'e:. 2. There shall also be apptdnted an assessor,
wh jsj duty it shall be to take a l.st of all tho taxable
property, b.jth ral and rsonal in the town, and at
tach thereto the truo value thereof ; such list and
ass-issment to be main annually and filed with the
clerk of the board on or before the first day of Sep
tember. .e.;. 3. There shall bo a treasurer appointed,
whoso duty it shall be to receive and nafely keep all
the moneys belonging to the town, and pay all orders
drawn on him by the board, signed by the chairman
and attested by the clerk of tho loard, and before
entering upon tho duties of hia office be shall mako
and execute to the board such bond as may be requi
red and approved by the board, conditioned that he
will faithfully discharge all the duties of treasurer
according to law, and shall, at anytime when re
quired by tho board, report the amount of money in
the treasury, with all other matters pertaining to
his office.
Sec. 4. There shall also be appointed by tho loard
a Street Commissioner. whosedutyitshnHbc tokeep
open, repair and otherwise improve the streets and
alleys of the town, and see that tho citizens and lot
holders perjorm all tho work required of them by
ordinance, and perform all other duties required of
him pertaining to his office.
Sc;. 5. There shall also be appointed a town con
stable, whose duty it shall bo to collect all moneys
due the town by assessment of taxes, fines or for
feitures, or in any other manner from any person or
persons whomsoever, and pay the same over to tho
treasurer, taking bis receipt for the same, and per
form all other duties pertaining to his office, and.
beforo euteringupon the duties of his office, fie shall
make and execute to the board rjch bond and se
curity as the board may require and approve, condi
tioned that he will faithfully discharge all tho du
ties required of him, and that he will faithfully ob
serve all ordinances or orders cf the board which may
imposo duties or require bis services.
Sec. 6. That there shall be no orders drawn on
the treasurer unless ordered by the board, which
ordjr and direction shall be entered and appear on
the minutes of tho meeting ordering the same. The
said otdcrs shall be signed by the chairman of tho
board, and counters;gned by the clerk, and made
payable to the person in whose favor it is drawn. AH
orders shall be numbered respoc'.ively as i'tied and
datad on the Eame day, and 6hall be paid by the
treasurer in the order of their number and date, un
less otherwise ordered by tho board. The Treasurer
shall, when any order is presented to him for pay
ment and not paid, endorse cn the back of such order
stating that the within has been presented, and date
and sign the same, which endorsement shall entitle
the holder to ten per cent, per annum on the amount
the order calls for, from the dato of such endorse
raont. PROVIDING FOR WOKK ON STREETS.
Sec. 7. That all able bodied male inhabitants of
the town, over the age of eighteen and under the
age of fifty years, shall work at least two days in
each year on the streets of tho town, under the su
pervision of the Street Commissioner , at such wori.
as Slid commissioner shall designate, or pay for each
day eo failing to work the sum of one dollarand fif
ty cents, provided that the said commissioner shall
givo six days previous notice, either by serving a
written notice or by advertising the same by posting
up at least four advertisements iu the most public
places in the town, said notice to designate the place
where said work is to bo done, the kind of tools or
implements to bo used, and tho hour of tho day in
which said work is to be commenced: the clerk shall
furnish the commissioner wit h a list of all hands sub
ject to work on said streets. All persons who shall
bo legally notified as above, and shall fail to work
on sa.id streets, cither by himself or by a legal sub
stitute.shall be returned to the board a delinquent,
and if he fails to pay to the collector whn called up
on to do so tho sum of one dollar and fifty cents, the
same may be collected by suit before any justico of
ttc pence in this county, the sarno ns auy other debt
together with costs of such suit. The street com
misdoEcr shall every six months mako and exhibit to
the board a full statement in writing of all his pro
ceedings, petting forti tho amount of money received
and paid out for work, the number of days' work
done under bis supervision, tho number of delin
quents and the amiut of money collected from the
same, together with all other matters pertaining to
his office.
Sec. 8. That the tax of this town shall not be
more than five mills on the dollar per annum, un
less the board is authorized, by at least two-thirds
of all the tax-pnyers in the town requiring them, to
levy a higher rate of tax.

Sec. 1. if Ordained by the Hoard of Truster

lows : That it shall not be lawful for any person or
persons to sell r.r dispose of in any ws y, manner, or
by any subterfuge, any spirituous, vinous or malt
liquors, or any other intoxicating beverage, within
the incorporate limits of said town, unless he or they
s-iall first have procured a license from the board of
trustees for said town authorizing him or them to
sell the same.
Sec. 2, That it shall not bo lawful for any person
or persons to establish or keep any bowling or billiard
saloon or ball alley within this town without first
having procured license to open or keep thesamo.
Sec. 3. That any person or persons violating eith
er of the foregoing sections of this ordinance, shall,
upon conviction thereof before any justice of tho
peace within the county of Nemaha, bo fined any
sum not less than ten dollars nor more than ono hun
dred dollars.

any person or persons wishing to open any drinking
billiard, bowling saloon, or ball alley, within the in
corporation limits of this town, shall make applica
tion by a petition of at least a majority of all the
citizens of paid town to the board of trustees, or to
any ono of the town officers who may be legally ap
pointed by said board to grant the tame, for a licen
se t-jopen such saloon or ball alley, and shall, before
any such license shall be granted, file a bond, and
pay to the treasurer of sail board, or other officer
granting said license, such sum as shall be required
by ordinance, tube receipted by said treasurer, and
a license may, at the discretion of said board, be
granted forany term not less than six normore than
twelve months, and for any sum not less than Cfty
dollars nor more than fire hundred dollars.

Two Bay Mares in Charge
ON Monday the 27th of June, 1859, two men
Sashing by tbe names of James Hamilton and Wm.
ohnson, stopped at the Brownville House in Brown
ville, N. T. having with them two large dark bay
mares. On the 2'Jth the men left Brownvilio leaving
the animals at tho City Livery Stable. They stated
before leaving that they had taken up the horses on
Salt Creek between tho two Blues, thinking them to
be estrays. The mares aro yet at the City Livery
Stable in Brownville, where the owners can get them
by calling proving property and paying all charges
connected with their keeping ; unles called for
within sixty days from this date, they will be held
at auction to tho highest bidder.
