(pizvtz Lead:? r ' For the information . cf bur Eastern readers, we will give a description, and our theory respecting these leads. At a remote period of time, probably thousands of years since, this whole mountain region seems to have been dis tiirbed by most violent eruptions, disrupt ing the-whole of the primitive formations and elevating it in immense peaks and i- ' mi ,. irregular iiuirus. ine Strata Standing almost vertical, inclining occasionally ten or twenty degrees to N. W. or . S. E., running usually in. K. Jl. and S. S. W., but in places completely broken up and deposited without any order. "At the time of the eruption, the quartz. in a fluid state or nearly so, containing gold, was forced up through fissures or seams in the primi tive rock and reached the surface in many places. When it became exposed to the air and moisture' it hardened, ftrm ing in long fiat rocks with rounding cor ners and edges, honeycombed, and re sembling somewhat rough half-smelted iron ore or cinders from a stone coal fur nace. Removing this "out-crop" or "blossom" rock; as it "is called, by miners, others of similar character, but gradually softening, are formed, underlying each other as you descend in the Vlead" or vivi., uuiu jja'tfjiii ia leagu ed, at a dejth varying from one to twenty-five feet. 'This "pay-dirt" is then found confined in the "crevasse," between the "wall-cocks," yarviner in thickness from a- few inches to three or four feet, extending along the lead and downward farther than is yet known. It resembles a coarse clay, red, yellow, Or white, intermixed with little quartz crystals, pieces of broken quanz rock, and fragments of cinders." In certain places, in some leads, a yield of gold amounting to fifty or sixty dollars to the cubic foot has been-found, and from that amount down to one or two dollars to the cubic foot, but never less than that to our know ledge, where the true "crevasse" has been found.. ; These "leads" are indicated by loDg lines of the " V blossom" rock, stretching for miles and miles', over hill and hollow, usually running with the strata, N. N. E. and S. S. W., but occasionally diverging and pursuing an irregular course, or "jumping" to. the right or to the left. At intervals of a - few hundred yards are found 'chimneys," great heaps of. huge rocks irregularly tried, and apparently having undergone great heat. None of these have been yet penetrated indeed, it is impossible to do so with the mining tools now in the country but it is believ ed by many, that . beneath them are the richest deposits of gold.- j The. gold in these "leads" is mostly very fine or "flour" gold, but in some it is coarse and irregular, and in one "lead" we know. of "feather" gold ii found this is lon, slender pieces, with irregular and jagged iedges. In all the leads opened, the gold becomes coarser as it descends. Our theory in regard to these gold "leads" inay be erroneous, but it is em-; braced by most of the miners with whom we have conversed. A few differ, con tending that the result is by a natural law and goes-steadily onward from day to day and from year to year. From the Rocky Mountain News. The Mines Rich Deyelopmcnts. . W.DEFREES&CO., ; of South Bend, Ind.' country. . Crops had been destroyed, houses plundered, and cattle driven off or killed. Even the "Post Office at Cuming Creek had been broken up. Arriving at "West Point, Cuming coutny, they were iomed by more men, so that their num ber amounted to 57 well armed men, mostly mounted the Indians being en camped on the other side of the Elk Horn about four miles distant. The settlers were panic stricken, and anticipating a general massacre. Small scoutiug par ties of Indians 'were seen, apparently watching the movements of the whites. Here they divided forces, most of them remaining at West Poiut, and about twenty, under the command of J. W. Pattison, proceeding up the Elk Horn to protect the settlers at a little town called De WTitt, some five miles further up. While at De Witt, on the 30th, eleven Indians were observed but a short' dis tance off, and these were enticed into a house, Pattison and his men laying in ambush with the intention of taking the entire party prisoners. On attempting to execute this maneuver, the Indians seized their arms and fired upon the whites, wounding one of them. The whites re turned the fire of the Indians, and an engagement of a few minutes ensued, which resulted in the killing of four Indi ansone of their Chiefs among the num ber and the supposed wounding of sev eral more, when the savages beat a hasty retreat. The settlers in that region deemed it more prudent to go down to Fontenelle, some 40 miles distant, where they still remain. On the return to Fontenelle of the war party, despatches were sent to this city for assistance, and a portion of the Omaha Light Artillery Squad imme diately repaired- to Fontenelle. Gen. Thayer accompanied them and took the command. Subsequent dispatches have been sent in for additional aid, and the balance of the gun squad and several oth ers went out with the field piece on Sun day last. ' On Weduesday last, Gov. Black and a small detachment of dragoons under Lieut. Robertson, accompanied by several volunteers, left for the scene of difficulty. A. detachment of fifty dragoons has also left Ft. Kearney for the same destination in compliance with the request of Secre tary Morton. Yesterday we learned that Governor Black has been joined by about 40 volunteers from Washington county. The entire force now in the field must be not far from 250, mostly mounted, and of whom sixty or seventy are dra goons in the regular service. We learn that the property destroyed by the Indians is estimated at $15,000. Omaha JSebraskian. DR. EASTERLY'S Iodine and Sarsaparilla Will cure all diseases arising from an impure state of the blood, cr a depraved condition of the fluids of the system, viz: cancers, swelling of the glands, rheumat ism, white 'swellings, chronic sore eyes, piles, ooils, erysipelas, goitres, pains in the bones, aad joints, ul cers in tbtf mouth and throat, and all chronic constitu tional diseases. This medicine searches out the very root 8 of the disease by purifying the blood, and changing the secretions in the system, thus removing the cause, which renders the cure certain and permanent. Dr. Latterly' t Iodine and Sar$aparilla will cere the wortt mercurial ditto, and drive out and destroy ev ery particle of mercury which is in the system, and cure its bad effects. . It will cure tecondary typhilit or veneral diteate, and will drive the typhilitic virtu and all hereditary taintt and pouonow matter out of the system through the pores of the skin, and restore the patient to a per fect state of health and purity. It is a positive cure for liver complaint and dyspepsia, it used a proper length of time. I challenge the world to produce its equal in these complaints. The afflicted will bear in mind that Dr. Latterly' $ Iodine and Sartaparilla will cure all nervous diseases, female comploiuts, dropsy, graveo, diseases of the kidney's, bladder, and urinary organs in a few days. It will remove pimples and blotches from ihe face, and make the skin clear, white and beautiful as ala baster. It does this by pnrif yinghe Hood, and by its prompt action on the liver, kidneys, and secretory or gans, producing vigorous health. Persons who have long been afflicied with scrofula, old sores, tetter, ringworm, scald head, blotches, eruptions of the skin, and all cutaneous diseases, are advised to procure Gridley's Salt Rhoum and Tetter Ointment to apply on the sores and diseased parts, when using Dr. Eatterly't Iodine and Sartaparilla. The Iodine and Sarbaparilla purifies the blood, and causes the sores to discharge their putrid matter, and the ointment healt them. When both are used (which I always recommend) a permanent and rad.cal cure is always effected. They are the best and most powerful curatives known to man. A fair trial is all I ask 1 do not fear the result. Price of the Iodine and Sarsaparilla, $1 per bottle, or 6 bottles for $5. Gridley's Salt Rheum Ointment 75 cents per bottle.
