The proprietors, Messrs Morrison and Wheeler, we are gratified to know are giving the most perfect satisfaction in every respect. That they will continue to do so, the public may rest assured; for they are agreeable and gentlemanly in their intercourse, and understand well their business. Steamer Twilight. The government steam er Twilight passed down the river yes terday. She has been up above the mouth of the Yellowstone. She had one of the steam musical instruments aboard on which was played as she neared our City, and again on leaving, several pop ular tunes, which of course caused a gen eral rush to the wharf. On hearing it we couldn't help thinking of ".2 r"ode to ye Lauiope, written by some comical genius "Spoons," if we remember right when the "machine" first made its ap pearance as a Circus accompaniment. Steps were imme diately taken by the parties to become united in the "holly bonds of wedlock;" the first of course was to procure the papers." The issuing officer was traced to Nemaha City, who being buzily en gaged "making fourth of July," and hav ing no blanks or record book, with him gave an order to the Minister to "splice "em," and it should be "right in the mor ning" regular Licence issued. Thus provided for, the Minister was summon ed ; a party assembled in the Hotel Par lor; the happy couple "on the floor," ready to "join right hands," and be pro nounced "man and wife." The minister not yet having become possessed of the necessary evidence to authorize him to proceed , called for the "documents," and was handed the afore-mentioned "order," a glance at which caused a shake of the head, and a "this wont answer." There was a "dead halt," sure ; a "slip be- twixt cup and lip," ana -wnat s t" be done," was the "question before the house." The couple retired to their room and after consultation, a "Deputy Judge" was thought of, who, upon being found, issued the regular license, and the "ball went on." To the other couple. The "unnecessary delay" had given "material aid" to the "old centleman." who, havins cot "wind" of the elopement, was in "hot pursuit," and arrived "just in time to prevent "any further ceremony." He took charge of the "naughty girl;" "looked daggers" at, and used hard words to the "young gent. - In short, that Lail didn t goon "Sich is life," and, :how pleasant every thing is." The river is in excellent bcatinrr order at present. Connty Court The County Court forNemaha county is now in session and has been since Tues day last. Present, Judges Hall, Cole and Saunders; ClerkE. E. He comes well recommended, and has thus far made a favorable impression. Drowned- q The body of another man was taken from the river, just below the steamboat landing on Monday last, very much decomposed. Yet another. A body was taken from the river near Sonora, on Saturday last. A friend at our elbow thinks "there must be somebody tip the river knocking peo ple in the head of late." 1 i i BrowiiTille Orators. There must be considerable "Spread Eagle," and "Star and Stripe" about Brownville, if we may be allowed to judge from the number of orators it furnished on the Fourth. Mr. Tipton delivered the oration at Nemaha City; Mr. McGary at Saint Stephen ; Mr. M. F. Clark at Peru; Mr. U. C. Johnson in this city; and we may say the Editor was solicited to of ficiate in that capacity at Table Rock, but owing to other pressing engagements was unable to accept the invitation. Did any one find the Calliope at the blacksmith -hop, bakery, or in the mustard thicket? If so, who was it? Was any one sold in going to the river? We did injustice to the ' enterprise of our worthy citizen, Esq., Kennedy, last week, by saying he had "enclosed by hedge 40 acres." He has 160 acres thus enclosed. UPRIGHT STEAM SAW 3IIXX. This mill commands the universal admiration of saw mill men everywhere. As its merits become known, the demand tor it increases. Orders are coming from every section of this country, Canada, Cuba, and South Ameri ca. It is suited for every section of the world wherever there is timber to be sawed, no matter of what character how bard, how large or how small. Two extensive ma nufactories are now engaged In building these mil Is, yet it is almost impossible to turn them out as fast as tbey are wanted. They embrace several valuable patenla and improvements, and combine all of the following ad- StmviicU'j Both the mill and power axe so simple In their construction that any one of ordinary mechanical ability can comprehend them, put them up and run them without d inger or difficulty. Portability The whole establishment can be very quickly takeu apart and put togetbor, thus rendering it easy to be moved from place to pi joe asdesired, and sav in? tne necessity of drawing tbe logs a king distance to Durability It is constructed in the meat solid and substantial manner, runs perfectly still. The speed of the saw is about three hun dred strokes per minute, and the feed from one-eighth to three-quarters of an inch per stroke. Thus, at a medians speed the saw will cut through a log twenty-four feet long m about three minutes. From this data any one knowing the character of the timber can calculate hew much it will do. Fjfiiciency It does its work well, cuts smoother an4 Straiguter than the ordinary mills, and tbe arrangement of the saw is such as to render It utterly kmposatele lot it to run out of line.
