which, in the early surveys, were sup
posed to be permanentbodies of water,
and meandered accordingly. But from
the changes of climate, and other nat
ural causes, many ot these lakes are

A letter from the President of the
State Bank of, Ohio, received by his
correspondent in New York on Mon

He says the banks have arranged with
the Ohio Trust Company by. taking
bonds and mortgages for their balances,
about $300,000. This locks up that
amount, but is not equal to their un
divided profits. There are thirty-six
branches, with $4,100,000 capital, $r,
100,000 undivided profits, and $10,
000,000 bills receivable. "The banks,
the President remarks,,"are in si'more
comfortable situation than when the
Trust Company's failure occurred; the
loans are on active commercial paper,
based chiefly on the export trade of the
State, with no railroad acceptances or
bonds or slocks."

Dear Siu: In looking over the last number of your
paper a notice attracted my attention signed by
Jerome Hoover, Esq, in which he states that certain
stories arc in circulation that tho undersigned claim
some interest in Nemaha City for the purpose of in
juring its prosperity. It may d quite well to cir
culate a report of that nature where the facts are
unknown, but to those knowing the facts such a
statement is merely foolish. m
And for the purpose of giving a fair opportunity
to persons to ascertain the facts we hereby warn all
persons from purchasing any pretended claim or
interest in the said town of Muiaha City, from the
said Jerome Hoover, as he has sold and received pay
for nine- twelfths of said town, and suit is now pending
to place the undersigned in possession of the interest
by them purchased in the same; and they hare not
authorised tbe said Hoover to sell or dispose of any
portion of their" interest, but directed Huit to be
brought long since for its recovery.
