Wc have on hand a large accumula

Tinted States" published on our first
page. If we arc not disappointed in
assistance, we will commence the pub
lication of a Supplement in a few weeks
and thus give them to our readers in
addition to uraal reading matter, rather
' than in place thereof.

has sent us an interesting and amusing
article. '-Leaves from my Iowa Log

correspondent of ours. Her "pictures
f western life" cannot fail to amuse.
"Toil Turnip' has some excellent
articles too, on file waiting a place. .
We have also other matter upon
various subjects which we promise to
find a place for as soon as possible.
AVe hope our readers will be patient

We may reasonably expect the Land
Office in this City to open now in a
few days. The Books were sent by
Express from Washington June 2.
The office for the present will be opened
in the Bank building.
There has been one hundred and
thirty steamboat arrivals at the Brown
ville wharf since the opening of navi
gation this Spring, and at every arri
val, without a single exception, there
were passengers or freight or both
lauded here.
Improvement in. South Brow nTille.
. We notice that a number of new
buildings have already been com
menced in South Brownville. Messrs.
BmcEn & Westfall, two enterprising
citizens who have come among us this
Spring, -re clearing off the ground and
making extensive arrangements for
burning brick. A Merchant Mill will
also be erected the present eason in
South Brownville and when, completed
"srill be the first in Nebraska,
- Wc arc pleased to learn that the hail
s.tirm which visited us last week and
ised sup mr gardens, did not prevail to
that extent in the Comity we feared.

narrow strip of country in its passage.

Pawnee Indians. A letter from I
Washington to Hon. B. B. Chapman,
says: "The Indian Office took action,
last week, on your memorial to the
President in regard to the Pawnees.
They strongly and urgently recom-
mend that a treatv be made at once
with those Indians in accordance with

crnmcnt a delegation of the Chiefs
and Head men of the tribe, to make
the treatv here. So that there is no
doubt now but what your people will

They have fugitive slave excitement
in Ohio. U. S. Deputy Marshal
Churchill, arrested four men, at Me
chanisburii, Champaigrn, Co., who
were charged with harboring a fugitive.

Orson Pratt, the Mormon Elder was
killed On the 14tn mst., near V an

Hector, whose wife Pratt had seduced.

States steamer Arctic, has been ap
pointed to take a party to the Isthmus
of Daricn, for a survey of Tatatro and
Truando Ship Canal Route.
Gov. Gardner, of Massachusetts, on
the 29th, vetoed the resolutions passed
by the Legislature of that State, for
the relief of the settlers in Kansas,
because in his judgment, they con
trovened the constitution, and he be
lieved them inexpedient.
John Plumb, the original projector
of a "railroad to the Pacific, committed
suicide," on the afternoon-of the 20th
ult., at the residence of his brother,
in Chicago. He was laboring under
a fit of insanitv.
Gen. Houston has declared himself
a candidate for Governor of Texas,
and commenced stumping the State.
All hostilities against the Seminole
Indians are to be prosecuted with un-
abated vigor under the command of
Col. Loomis, Gov. Broome, cf Florida,
has been assured by the Secretary of
War and Gen. Scott.
Hon. W. B. Reed has received his
commission and instructions as Minis
ter to China.
A vigilance committee has been or
ganized in Jackson county, Iowa, the
object of which is to redress all griev-
ances,a la California, without recourse
to the laws of the State.
The news received by telegraph that
Grenada has ceded the islands in the
Bay of Tanama to the British Govern
ment, is not credited in official quarters,
nor is such a result apprehended.
The Postmaster General has allowed

Dear Sir: In looking over the last number of your
paper a notice attracted my attention signed by
Jerome Boover, Esq., in which he states that certain
stories are in circulation that the undersigned claim
some interest in Nemaha City for the purpose of in
juring ita prosperity. It may do quite well to cir
culate a report of tbat nature where the facts an
unknown, but to those knowing the facts such a
statement is merely foolish.
And for the purpose of giving a fair opportunity
to persons to ascertain the facts we hereby warn all
persons from purchasing any pretended claim or
interest in the said town of Nemaha City, from the
said Jerome Hoover, as he has sold and received pay
for nine-twelfths of said town, and suit is now pending
to place the undersigned in possession of the interest
by them purchased in the same; and they have not
authorized the said Hoover to sell or dispose of any
portion of their interest, but directed suit to be
broBgbt iorj since for its recovery.
